Subject: Monsterous Creatures/Wizard Army - need some help!

Hey all,
So im a recently converted 40k fanboy. Except my major plastic addiction is conversions. I will spend many hours converting, so an army can take me literally years to build.
So for AoS I want to start with a low model count;
By this I mean I want to field a couple huge badass guys that I may have converted ( Verminlord - converted with Wings and head from frost phoenix for a totally nutty fateweaver anyone?!?  ) preferably including some wizardy stuff as I like magic. My current thoughts;
Tzeentch - LoC, Fateweaver, the blue scribes, they all have some pretty cool jazz when it comes to magic and also fit the bill of Monsters - allowing me to do some crazy conversions. Nurgle - Many of the big baddies (epidermus, GUC) have some magic stuff going on and are great for conversions.Warriors of chaos and beastmen? seems to have quite a few monsters floating about in there.
My problem is, I don't quite get AoS synergy at the moment. Tzeentch for example is quite specific in that a lot of the hero command stuff only applies to Tzeentch. So Mixing Monsters seems a little no go? Would I be hampering myself (in a casual setting) if I was to simply take the monsters I liked model wise?
What Monsters have you played?/have you enjoyed?What wizards have you enjoyed? - I like wizards for the idea of modelling powers and suchHow many ounds (wound count?) wuld be a good starter army? 30? so like 3 monsters?With just monsters will i be able to inflict enough wounds to actually win games?

You won't be hampering yourself, you just might not be buffing yourself as much. Having every unit synergize is not necessary. A lot of units even within the same army don't interact.
I find the chimera quite powerful, fits in any sort of Chaos list.
The warlock engineers for Skaven are particularly deadly with their ability to risk wounds to themselves for upping the damage to D6 mortal wounds on their spell. That's very powerful.
A lot of AoS games centre around scenarios, so monsters might be weaker at some and perhaps better at others. I think it would make for great-looking battles with monsters and wizards against a tide of troops.
You'll be able to inflict wounds for sure, but everything dies in AoS fairly rapidly, and monsters weaken as they take wounds. It should make for fun, interesting games.

Warriors of chaos and beastmen do monsters pretty good. (check out the troll king guy from WoC and beastmen goat wizard guy in particular)
Another fun army that uses fairly low model count is Ogres, I think they have some great options for converting aswell! Plus who doesnt love giant squiggs from destruction.
AoS is about models you love to play so if you want tzeentch to lead some crazy ogres with some empire mages....DO IT! Have fun with it. As a fellow 40k to AoS convert I have learned leave the competition to 40k and use AoS to fill that kid inside, convert everything to your hearts desire and go for it. As long as you stay away from the broken cheese combos you shouldnt have a problem having fun
As for starting wounds, games can be played at any size but I like to suggest around 50, it allows for people to have a small variety of units to have fun with while learning the game.

So some thoughts
Fateweaver (because i've always wanted to make one)
Blue scribes (because they can learn any spell cast around them)
Dragon ogres - As my Low model count "troops" (because they provide all wizards within a range a spell that can target and heal them)
Think I will start there I have a really big dude in fateweaver, some more Hero based wizards in the blue scribes and then I have some large models in a unit with the dragon ogres. Atleast something along those lines I think. Future updates may grab a chimera, maybe some more Tzeentch stuff from Daemons/ WoC.

I do something a little similar with my Night Goblins. I've found running a Mangler Squig(s) and Giant alongside an army that's primarily squig mounted is good for the smaller games. It pretty much guarantees I'll be seeing some sort of CC action, which is pretty much the only way to go with a Forces of Destruction army.
Finding a nice balance between units that hold their own and others that real benefit from nearby buffs seems to work really well in the games I've played.

3,500 (and building) ASM
3,000 Blood Angels
1500 Eldar (abandoned)
AoS - Beastclaw Raiders, Ironjawz, Night Goblins, and Ogors - Destruction remains unvanquished! |

Sorry, I didnt mean to come off trying to suggest other armies to you, I didnt realize you had such a vision already guess I should read better
Running tzeentch tho I will say I have had a blast with the Changling! I preach him all the time as he is one of my favorites! He steals spells and messes with the opponents deployment enough to position your army how you need it. He also knows any spell from wizards within 9" which is nice even if you dont deploy him on your opponents side, match him with brey shaman and be able to summon monsters left and right
The troll king from WoC will boost your monsters quite handsomely and the brey shaman can summon monsters straight up as mentioned before.
Missions is where you are gonna have trouble, that and against armies like stormcast(who get boosts against monsters and chaos), Dwarf Slayers (again boosts against biggies) and units that deal more wounds if the model survived the first set of wounds(cant think of a specific one right now but im pretty sure clan pestilence has one aswell as VC and KB)
If you want to add a few non monsters I would throw in some nurgle daemons/Rotbringers to throw at any unit that is born and breed to fight monsters so you can increase your monsters longivity. Unlike 40k, Monsters maybe strong in AoS but they definitely have counters. So maybe 1-2 units of 3-5 of something like BlightKings or Beast of Nurgle/Nurglings, really anything that will sit there and take punishment for a round or two

Ah Solosam, different ideas was exactly what I wanted, I just have a little fetish for Tzeentch it seems
Yeh changling was next on the list for the exact reasons you mentioned! combined with fate/ LoC I could run around turning everyone into spawns (with potentially 3 of my wizards knowing gift of change) I will certainly have a look at the trollking and see what he's giving
Yeh I was thinking perhaps I would at some point need a meatshield unit, nurgle would be a very easy unit to produce both modelling-wise and bits wise.

And the fact tzeentch mod rolls to summon bloodthirsters and with gray shaman to get stuff like glottkin on the board really dominates skirmish games

Very true but at the same time soooooo cruel, I guess if you are gonna roll tzeentch like that you need to be responsible with the power at hand

nagash doesn't like to play fair so you have to get dirty . Course you can expect to have locals pissed after one game when someone wanted to play 50 wounds skirmish and by turn 4 I had almost 250 wounds worth on table after dispells etc.
although I won't summon monsters outside faction. That's a little too far fetched or you have a wave of nagash and then the board is all over the place with monsters from every faction

Thats the main reason I probably wont summon, second being not having any models! I know summoning can be quite powerful, but tbh i'm thinking of playing AoS for the fun fluff games.
Currently working on my back plot to my army;
Tzeentch/nurgle worshippers so im going to go with a weird fat, many faced feel. Fateweaver im going to take the symbol thingy from the vortex beast and put it on the staff from the skreech verminlord model. Then some GS work and many many many other bits
I had a look at the WoC troll king, seemed pretty powerful, but im now thinking of going with the dragon orgres, they seem like good "infantry", especially considering they will allow all wizards in my army within range to heal them.

Summoning can be fun and fluffy! Especially for tzeentch. just dont be summoning like an orc boyz rear end, summon to make the match fun for the opponent aswell as yourself.
I will purposely start out with less wounds then my opponent (we dont play that sudden death rule) then try to summon a few of my tzeentch models before he can kill my wizard, nothing to crazy just an LoC and some pinkies. going to convert me some daemonettes and a keeper soon though

Makes me more sense to add the question to this topic but far as capitalizing on monster summoning ... Which units outside of chaos with the monster tag would pack the most punch ( excluding Nagash) ?
If you could list 3 in your preferred order such as ...for some suggestions to add to the monster summon list
1. Terrorgheist
2. Necrosphinx
3. Giant

I feel like giants shouldnt make a top three list, they are good but eh mediocre when it comes to others like the giants thundertusk and stonehorns, or some of the rediculousness that is the lizardmens monsters. So many good monsters

Oh that wasn't my list I was just giving an example to get people to respond . Just debating as to what others think would be an ideal addition next .
Scar veteran with the carnosaur or neferata monarch both look pretty broken. Especially if neferata can engage heroes
