Been Around the Block

I have watch the battle report, and read while rereading the rules.
Anyone know a good video to help me be ready for my very first 40k battle tomorrow?
I will be playing Space Wolves
a Wolf Lord on a Bike (Because my one on a thunderwolf is on UPS)
he will have 2 wolves with him
2 squads of 6 grey hunters, each without a banner, with a plasma cannon, and the pack leader with a frost sword, and storm bolter
3 Thunderwolf calvary, 2 with power fist and storm shield, and one with a thunder hammer and storm shield
Murderfang in a drop pod, launcher and beacon
a vern dread with the axe and shield, smoke and launcher
predator, twin las, storm bolter, xtra armor, and hunter-killer missle
and lastly, 4 long fangs, 2 las, and 2 launchers with flakk missles
ancient with bolt pistol and chain sword
any suggestions? THat is the army I have built, and plan on adjusting from there, but just with this first game, any advice on the army?
IDK what I am playing, or who.

Biggest advice is let your opponent know you are very new, and read everything. capturing objectives is generally the main goal in the game so don't be afraid to readover how particular rules work, such as cover, DT, and unit types.
The most important thing though... Have fun. Chances are you are going to forget core rules/army rules just make sure to read lots!

Hey man, welcome to the pack! as said above, have fun, learn your army, you will quickly figure out what works and what doesn't...
If you want some advice the TWC are great, they are our all stars, and will go through anything... point them at whatever is doing the most damage... But all those weapons are at Initiative 1so you could take 1 PF and a TH off and get 55 points back but that's just a suggestion.
You don't need the beacon on the drop pod either
Best of luck to you though mate, SW are a lot of fun best thing I can suggest is go on youtube or browse the tactics forum here, youll find a lot of discussions on SW builds and lists.
Hope this helps!

Also, if you're more about fun than winning, just pick what looks cool first, then look at the rules second. Not much fun playing an army you don't like the units of!

That would be why I am playing Murderfang! Name sounds cool, and I mean really.. having someone who is insane in your army? Why not.

Just have fun. Try to memorize all your units stats and the hit and wound chart. I'm fairly new my self but once I got this down games went much smoother and more enjoyable.

If you wanna watch something, take these:
Should give you some idea of the SW playstyle.
Best thing to do is don't panic, and discuss the rules with your opponent if you forget or misinterpret something

Never played SW myself but good luck. Let us know how you get on.
|
Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you. |

I would advise you drop the flakk missiles. Maybe keep just the launchers if you have already modeled the dudes ( GW doesn't like including all four of what you need, I know) but 9 times out of 10 anti air weapons are a waste of time in the current edition.
A quick explanation why is that Skyfire used to work on ground units and planes, and was a little bit too good at shooting planes down, so GW made it so it only snap fires against ground targets. This made most skyfire weapons really terrible.
The way you've currently got it, shooting your skyfire weapon at a plane wastes one of your Lascannons.
If you really feel you need something to pew pew at planes to make you feel better, take one flakk missile to split fire. It won't kill anything but it might avoid the frustration of not being able to kill something. But to be honest just ignoring and maneuvering around planes generally works. (Remember: planes can only turn 90 degrees and must move each turn. It's easy to figure out where they can't go and move into their blind spots)
If you want an anti air weapon id say eventually aim to get that transport plane the SWs have. It can't dump troops until the turn after it shows up anyway, you might as well use it to shoot a plane the turn it arrives.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

My biggest piece of advise would be to play a bunch of 500 pts games with just a unit or two. They let you learn the rules of the game (as there are less units to know the rules for) and you really want to get in as many games as possible so you can see the results of different strategies.
Welcome to the game!

First match was againest dark eldar.
Since it was my first match he suggested we play a kill match.
Well score was 5-9 i lost but i learned.
TWC, dont hide them, get in their faces and kill stuff.
My Wolf Leader, having a +2 armour save is HUGE, he killed a lot.
Fen Wolves are extra wounds.
Scatter dice can suck bad. Especially scattering into a old build8ng which meant i had to walk around it. Or scattering 10 back from being able to flame the unit of guys.
48 in range means almost entire board.
And lastly dont forget your drop pods do have gunsn
