It does look great from afar but on a closer inspection it lacks so many details... It just seems like too many shortcuts were taken in some areas. The back looks too homogeneous as if it was only primed. But it's nice tabletop quality!

It's good for a low tier commission. Details were not touched for the most part, which is disappointing. Paint is pretty clean otherwise.

Pretty much. It really shows that only a day was spent on this. Too many shortcuts, too many details left unpainted, sloppy OSL just for the sake of checking off "included OSL", etc. I guess it's better than gray plastic, but as an advertisement for your commission work it's pretty disappointing.

It may be a little rough and as an advertisement piece it leaves much to be desired, but considering the kit came out yesterday that is pretty good. I wish I could paint that well in one day!

Get an airbrush. There's nothing impressive about finishing the model that quickly, airbrushing simple base coats is quick and easy and then the OP just quickly sprayed some quick " OSL" in the general direction of some parts that might be light sources. There's no attempt to refine any of the work or fill in all of the details, which is what takes the most time and skill. And the OP didn't even bother to do what little detail work they put on the front on the entire model. It's like they reached their one-day deadline and that was the end of it, regardless of whether or not the model was finished.
So, in short, this is a demonstration of half-finished work, not admirable skill.

That's being honest, not being an ass. If the OP wants to run a painting business then they can deal with criticism of their business.

The guy said he wished he could paint that well in one day and you implied that all that's required is an airbrush. Nothing about the time it takes to learn to use one, nothing about how long it takes to draw smooth gradients, nothing about the control. You're just disrespecting the OP with your snide comments. You're not being constructive at all.

What smooth gradients? There's very little shading on the model, and what little there is seems to be the result of priming with a dark color so there's a bit of shadow in the corners rather than a deliberate attempt to create shading. And what fine control? Spraying a blob of light blue paint in the general direction of every light source as a clumsy substitute for OSL is not "fine control". This is beginner-level airbrushing at best.

I think it's a fantastic piece of work and especially since it was finished in a day. It looks as though it just rolled off the assembly line of the Tau frontier, as it should considering it's a new piece of equipment for the empire. The basing is also one of my favorite parts!

First up, I'm not a fan of OSL. Mostly because it seldom looks like OSL. It looks more like a random colour sprayed onto a detail, instead of painting the detail. For example, the rear missile pods [?] look like they were sprayed with the same colour as the OSL on other elements of the model. Those aren't a bunch of flashlights in those racks. Secondly, bases in the same major colour as the mini are always kind of a turn-off to me. The piece of slate beneath the model would be more interesting if it wasn't the same neutral colour as the model. Third, while in real life equipment is mostly painted a uniform colour [Case Red, John Deere Green, CAT Yellow] I've never gotten into models painted that way. For example, the rear of the model has the support pistons painted the same grey as the rest of the model, while a typical hydraulic ram would be a near-chrome steel colour. The joints are screaming for a different colour. The model is too "real world" in it's colour. The paint is clean. I'm not fond of the OSL effect on the targeting doo-dad on the right arm, it looks sloppy. The OSL is inappropriate on the rear missile racks. The rest of the model looks nice, and if I was playing against someone I'd remark that he did a good job with it. If it came up, I'd voice my suggestions for improvement. If the point is to advertise that you can paint a model like this for "X" number of dollars, and that's a good value, then you'd achieve your goal. Noting that your EBay list has the model at the base price is probably selling yourself short... I'd say there's probably a good $75 worth of time and materials invested in your work. It wouldn't take much more than an afternoon to bring up some details, the major colouring is done. The only trick would be to find someone with that paint scheme. That might lower the value, and as it is, I wouldn't call it a display piece to purchase simply for it's looks.

I think the piece is painted at a tabletop standard that is typical for many painting studios; with massive use of airbrush and OSL effects. Some like it, some do not - to me it usually feels like a pre-painted miniature when done that way and I'm not very fond of i, but hey - whatever floats your boat. Most people are into WH40k for playing and such a paintjob would be perfectly fine.
Is it magnetized?
cheers

Hey!
Thanks for your comments and your critisism It is painted on tabletop standard (I think a little bit more - I've seen some TT armies ) . Some of my friends says, that I'm painting in Aweaken Realms style and I like that. Some people will like my airbrush work and some don't. It's really up to you. I know that some glowing effects are unnecessary (eg. rockets on "arms"), but it was planned - to do something risky on this model
And well, I feel satisfied, because, You guys, are finally commenting!
Cheers

Looks really nice, would love to have that in my Tau army!
My only complaint is that the base is a little boring. Obviously if the client just wanted generic lush highlands then it's cool.

I can't say this is an impressive piece... what people are saying is true, not counting building and priming, airbrushing that would take an hour at most. It is messy, and most of the none white materials seem ill defined at best. The black bands on the legs are a good example of how little attention the other materials received.
The white parts are a good place to start, but imho everything not white needs a complete do-over, or, doing in the first place.
Sorry if that sounds harsh but as a painting service I would not advertise this piece, I have seen far better from you guys.

As soon as I saw the Stormsurge model I knew there would be tons of bad OSL airbrushing on most of the models people posted pictures of. I'm actually slightly impressed that OP was a little bit reserved in the use of OSL. There's all kinds of other vents, random armor slots, insignia, and other stuff on this model that clearly aren't light sources, yet people with airbrushes are going to go nuts and use OSL on... because why not?
Similarly I don't understand why the missiles on the back would be glowing. That makes the least sense to me of all the lighting effects on this particular model. For me the biggest crime is the main gun. It's just painted white and has the lighting effect on a couple bits, and that's it. There's all sorts of awesome details on the main gun that could/should have been painted.
I will say that I like the paint chipping effect, and the model isn't bad for a single day's work.

OSL became some sort of standard for airbrush users sadly and is massively used by soo many new painting studios. I always thought unique or perfect paintjobs and conversions are what people would use to advertise their studios.

People are only being critical because it has been done by a commission painter, and a lot of people have certain expectations of someone who paints for a living. Share away.

Exactly. This is a for-profit business posting advertising material and a link to buy the model, not a random player who just wants to show off their cool toys. Criticism is always going to be much harsher when you start off a thread by saying "you should pay me for this".
