If a weapon with a Strength value makes a Precision Shot, is that attack resolved against the target model's toughness, or the majority of the unit?

I ask as my brother was using this rule to kill the crew of my Artillery unit, resolving them against the crew's T3 versus T7 for the unit. This then had me thinking would it be possible to say, snipe a weak character out of his bodyguard.

Precision Shot only changes wound allocation. It has no effect on rolling to wound, so that would still be against the unit as normal.

Precision Shots allow wounds to be allocated to a specific model, rather than as normal, so the To Wound roll would have to have been made against the unit as normal beforehand.

The to-wound is still aginst the unit's majority toughness unless otherwise stated.

BUT rules for instant death matter on the model's toughness not the unit's.

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Which, it should be noted, is always the case, regardless of Precision Shots.
