Hey lads! A while ago I made a custom campaign map for my friends at the Bretonnian Round Table. Unfortunately, I got little actual feed back on it(all of the reading probably scared them off) and want to know how I can improve on it.

Hopefully, my future campaign map for a Empire battle will benefit from what I learn to improve on here.

Many thanks for any help you guys can give me!

Salutations fellow knights! There's alot of sketches and personal projects I'm trying to get done but my schedule has recently increased it's workload for me.:(

At least I finished this AoS campaign map that I've been working on.

It is the age of peace within the realms the free people. The realms are prosperous and the descendants of the world-that-was are creating glorious new civilizations. The pantheon of order's power and wisdom reign nearly unnopposed and darkness hides in the farthest corners.

However, these vile dark shadows are still a threat. They have power, cunning and time. Always in wait and biding their time, they are a grave threat to the realms. Vigilance must be maintained and heroes are never given rest, there is darkness on the horizon and many know that this peace may only be a interlude to a great tragedy.

Campaign map, the realm of death and the Count's dread fief. So begins the Duke's quest!

Though a god of the pantheon of order, Nagash's followers still have much darkness at the corners of their lifeless hearts.

One such individual is the fell Count Morfeo, he plans to use a foul ritual to steal the very essence of life from the realm of life. To do this he must perform a horrific sacrifice of one who is blessed most by the goddess Alarielle. It was during the realm's winter cycle that the Count lead a unliving host into that realm and stole away a priestess who was so blessed with life that her very touch could make an entire forest grow from the most desolate of soil.

There was few who could aid her in this dire situation. If not for a young squire spotting the fiend carrying the priestess away in his black coach while out hunting game for his lord, then none would know of the peril. The free people of that land, in whose spirit echoed the chivalry of long lost Bretonnia, immediately set out to bring the cur to justice and save lady fair.

The Forlorn village, the first steps into the realm of death.

It was foul magic that let the Count so easily cross between realms. He believed that once the portal of shadows closed he would have no one to oppose his scheme, for even Nagash was blind to it thanks to the Count's tower of shadows obscuring his fief from the god's eyes.

He knew not that the Duke's force made swift passage through it as the life realm itself kept the portal open, the life force of the realm sensed the fading presence of the goddess's favored and used it's power to reach through the portal. Though a vain attempt in itself, it kept the portal open for the Duke and his army to march through into the banshee woods, a foul mockery of a living forest if ever their was one.

The Duke knew that a proper base must be established and for that they needed resources, the peasantry got to work harvesting the moaning trees into a sparse village for stockpiling what the campaign needed. The moans of the dead were soon heard throughout the withered eaves of the forest, warm flesh and delicious blood was near and the residents of the realm of death never turned down a meal.

I want this to be a simple start up battle. So I'm thinking the Bretonnians get a strong defensive position with the following scrolls:

Bretonnians - 1 hero warscroll, 3 warscrolls with peasant keyword.

Undead- 5 warscrolls with 1 wound units that come in units of ten.

The Duke's keep and the Fallen's respite, the undead shall know rest this day!

Having secured the resources needed for his base of operations, the Duke called upon the services of his damsel of the old rites to sanctify the ground of his fortress. In the realm of death the dead are easy to wake and those who fall there find themselves marching to the dark tune of undeath. The damsel had created a burial ground that gave the fallen warriors of the expedition a eternal rest that undeath could not disturb.

After the Fallen's respite was created the damsel sought the Duke to ask him what else was needed of her. As he looked upon the bridge that crossed the Sea of Despair, he told her " Pray that we see morrow with living eyes again". She looked upon the bridge and saw the great undead host shambling towards them, thousands of empty eye sockets looked back.

Two buildings are controlled by the Bretonnians, the fort and the burial ground. If the fort is taken and held for 3 turns the undead win. If the burial ground is seized then the Bretonnians are disheartened and do not gain bravery from having 10 models in a unit. As long as the burial ground is held by the Bretonnians it counts as inspiring terrain.

Bretonnian defenders may use 5 warscrolls with two hero warscrolls.

Undead attackers use 5 warscrolls with one hero warscroll and two warmachine/monster warscrolls.

The Bridge of champions or the Titan's valley, a choice of daring!

As the hordes of death were pushed back a yeomen scout noticed three foul figures at the bridge's center. Upon hearing this news three of the Duke's champions took it upon themselves to charge their way through the horde and meet these soulless commanders in honourable battle. They knew that once the foul presence of the commanders was vanquished the army of undeath would lose all focus.

A battle pitting three heroes of Bretonnia against three undead heroes. If the Bretonnians lose then they must take the second path.

A blood chilling wind passes through the valley between the nearby mountains. A immense three headed abomination of bone and darkness guards this pass and destroys all who dare to walk under the mountain's shadow.

Knowing that the priestess' s life hanged in the balance a valiant force of knights lead by a daring group of questing knights sought to vanquish this monstrosity and make all haste to the priestess's aid. A two day battle followed and despite their valorous deeds the knights had to fall back with one third their noble nice number. The beast was a force of nature onto itself and their blows did little damage to it's stone-like bones. It did not with unscathed however, one questing knight scaled the titan and hacked at it's neck with his blessed blade making it lose one of it's three heads.

The returning knights brought the head back to their camp as a consolation for their loss. The damsel arrived upon hearing this news and was planning to only escort the noble dead back to the Fallen's respite. However, upon seeing the hideous head , she felt compelled to touch it. Her blessed touch caused the bone to turn brittle and crack like glass. The knights saw this and remounted their destriers, the battle was not over.

Titan: 14 wounds. 2+ save. D10 attack. Upon losing half his health the Titan's attack becomes D5 and all units on the field take bravery tests(this is due to the fiend toppling over). Remove the Titan terrain piece that was last hit.

The battle takes the form of having to attack two large terrain pieces (the Titan's so large that only his feet are on the table), the Titan is controlled by the undead player along with a small undead force. The Titan attacks on the the hero phase (it counts as the undead's general). If the damsel strikes one of his feet his save becomes 6+ until the next hero phase.

The titan counts as deadly terrain for the Bretonnians and inspiring terrain for the undead.

Bretonnians use ten warscrolls, one must have a damsel keyword.
-Titan veterans: choose one unit of knights, they ignore the bravery test from the toppling Titan.

Undead use six warscrolls.

The Count's keep and the Growling abyss, victory is near!

The Count was most displeased. A force of heraldry waving fools have followed him into his domain. His armies were sorely tested and their anguish was starting to alert Nagash. The priestess had used her powers to barricade herself within the dungeon with a thicket of thorned branches that instantly regrew when cut. He was very displeased.

As his mindless servants tirelessly hacked their way towards the sacrifice, he began a incantation that tore the souls out of most of his remaining army and feed his dark power. With the final syllable pronounced, his entire dark castle began to rise into the sky. He needed more time, once the ritual was complete he would do away with these imbeciles and then usurp Nagash's power for his own.

-If you've conquered the bridge of champions:

Upon arriving at the count's keep the Duke witnesses it rise into the darkened heavens, far out of his grasp. However, as the ancient remains of hundreds of bodies fall from the keep's bottom, a great hungry growl shakes the land. A ancient force has been awoken and wants it's darkness back, once sated with undead, it will have the strength to reach up and pull the castle back down.

The growling abyss is a large terrain obstacle that takes up most of the center of the battlefield. It counts as a combination of deadly, sinister and damned terrain.

-If the Titan fell to your noble army:

Seeing the castle from the desolate earth, the Duke rode with his bravest knights to the mountain top at the end of the Titan's valley. Upon reaching the tomb notices a horrific structure of bone that emanated evil. The damsel saw the fell structure and discerned it's purpose as she sensed her powers being shifted by a malevolent shadowy force. If this structure fell then Nagash would see this treachery. The souls used to keep the castle afloat would be put under his power again, the tower must fall.

Large battle to control a tower for three turns, the tower counts as mystical, arcane and sinister terrain for the army that controls it.

I'll give a read to all the flavor text later :-)

The pictures look great, you've really embraced the crazy maps of Age of Sigmar. Have you thought about creating them digitally to make them a little clearer? I wouldn't have to be anything too technical if it's not your strongpoint, but either just draw the outlines and scan it into a computer, colour it in on MSPaint.

Or create them from scratch on the computer. I am a fan of tablets (iPads), and there is a great app called Paper 53 that could be used to draw a map quickly!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Thanks for the advice on the paper 53 app. I'm not really technical but I'll definitely check it out.

I love the campaign maps shown so far. The realm of life one totally blew me away. Not only was it beautiful but it brought me back to my childhood of looking at fantasy board games with maps depicting ancient caverns, floating castles and monster infested forests and seas.

I think you can see the pictures better at my topic in the Round Table.

Thanks again for the advice!
