Recently went up against a player who runs Grey Knights at my LGS. He'd been talking trash about how he'd steamroll my Daemons and we finally played a game. While he almost tabled me (forgot how stupidly powerful Draigo was), I felt like I ran a decent list and with some minor tactical moves I could have probably beat him. What are your guys' thoughts? While I agree Grey Knights have an advantage, I really don't believe it's an autowin and that a lot of it comes down to dice rolls and list building. I can post lists if anyone is interested.

It's an uphill battle, certainly.

I've played this match up a couple times against a local Demon player and it's gone both ways.

He uses Tzeench(?) with lots of pink horrors, sorcerers, demonettes, a Demon Prince or Kairos Fateweaver(?) and a Great Unclean One. If he's able to get cursed earth off and summon/sacrifice certain things and deny a lot of my psychic test I have a real hard time beating him even with preferred enemy...

Though it also doesn't help when I throw a psyke-out grenade on the Buffed Str9/T10 GUO and he rolls a '6' for his perils result whilst in cursed earth range for a 2++.

My best mate plays GK and I played CSM but decided I wanted a challenge vs him since im a slightly better and more experienced player also daemons are awesome, it is much harder for daemons but that's what makes the game so fun is you are always trying new tricksy daemon tactics and if you lose its because they had the advantage all game and if you win its because you're a tactical genius so its win win.

Tbh I find playing against GKs with my daemons pretty easy. They don't have huge ranged firepower, their numbers are low, and though they are generally on par with daemons for psychic dice that phase is easy to handle.

Draigo blob is a bit hard, and dreadknights can punk most of your good combat greeblies with S10, but good use of psychic powers and summoning throw away units in to the fray can hold anything in the game up until you're ready to deal.

Use D-thirsters to charge his thing that are unprepared, i.e. failed to get force up. Use Fateweaver, Belakor, Daemon Princes for Flying circus, grimore of ture name for the rerollable 2++. Or just summon enough daemons that GK cannot kill enough due to their low numbers.

Not as bad as Orcs vs Tau.

Draigo Paladins are few and crumble to rolls of 1. Spam more attacks. Khorne Flesh Hounds in large packs are somewhat durable compared to other daemons and receive stupid numbers of attacks on the charge. They also have stats worthy of close combat battles and move insanely fast across the board.

If you had an all Flesh Hound list with some Grimoire Herald nonsense, I think you could table him. He'll be locked in combat the entire game and unable to use non-blessing psyker powers.

It's called a thick skin. The Jersey born have it innately.

Grey Knights are not what they used to be, they only have 2-3 real scary things now and as long as you run your daemons to they talents you really wont have an issue. I feel GK really got cut in 7th edition and need allies to really be a force, as for pure GK, its all about focusing on the basics like target priority and what should fight what, with that mind set pure GK are too few in numbers with too short of range to pose a threat.

I would sign this contract but I already ate the potato

Depends on the Daemon list, a friend of mine plays them with a screamerstar, plague drones and some summoning horrors... They walk over every list put in front of them, before my SW I had grey knights and I couldn't beat him, its not what it used to be

I'd use Seekers of Slaanesh over Flesh Hounds against Grey Knights I think. They're just as fast, have more attacks, hit at a higher initiative, aren't vulnerable to instant death from Force/S8 and have Rending to get through those 2+ Armour saves. Not that Flesh Hounds are bad though.

As a gk player I usually curb stomp most demons.

But there is one list that does really really well against me and didn't field a lot of psychic dice... Although he does field demons from each sect. I see nurglings, khornehounds, screamers, demon prices, great unclean one, flamers. The army is fairly durable, very quick, throws a bunch of blind grenades after deep striking nurglings, and karanak shuts down my psychic phase.

It's a fast list, hard hitting, and gives my gk a hard time.

Exactly so.

Witchfires don't do well against the aegis and monstrous creatures have issues with force-weapon wielding squads (and dreadknights).

Sanctic daemonology is a damn good counter to malefic/grimoire tricks thanks to banishment

Hellblades bounce off terminator plate.

Essentially, they're great at undermining your dirty tricks. But beating them is still possible.

Small nurgling units are great for going to ground on objectives - you just need to make sure there is a suitable Distraction Bloodthirster (or similar) to keep the enemy busy whilst they sit there, playing daemonic gin rummy and farming victory points.

Slaanesh daemons are great given their 'strike range' - slaanesh and nurgle are a great pairing, in fact.
