You know how the Blood Angel marines have different colour helmets depending on the type of squad they are in? (Yellow for assault marines and blue for devastors)

Well, I want to do the same thing for my Dark Angels. There's nothing like it shown in the codex about it so I'm not sure what colours to go with.

Is there anything the extended fluff that could guide me? If not, other than white, what do you reckon will look good? I was going to do the shoulder pad trim in orange.

Blood Angels are Red, and helmets go...

TR: Red
FA: Yellow
HS: Blue
EL: Gold, except Termies, that stay red
HQ: Depends, usually bare heads. Shows off the fangs. I make a small alteration and use White.

So the colours follow a Primary Triad, and the EL get a metallic that looks best with the base colour. To make that more DA, you might want to go with a Secondary colour Triad...

TR: Green
FA: Orange
HS: Purple
EL: Copper [?]
HQ: Depends

I know nothing of DA fluff, but colour wise, that would probably work the best.

I like what greatbigtree said, but i'd say go for bone helmets like the deathwing instead of copper for vets, makes sense in my mind, Captains could have bone power armour since most of them will have terminator honours anyway.

I'd go Green for Tacticals, Black for Assault, Red for Devastators, and Bone for Veterans. Maybe not even the full helmet, but a stripe down the middle.

I'm really not sure about green and purple and my shoulder pads are going to be orange. I like the copper for the elites though.

Think I'm going to go with white for devastators, red for assault and copper/gold for elites.

That sounds pretty good. The reason I chose the colors I suggested was that Assault Marines are similar to the Ravenwing, i.e. the Black Marines. Elites are similar to the Deathwing, i.e. the Bone Marines. Red goes to Devs because FIRE! But white for Devs(Bone white or White white?) sounds like it would look cool.
