Subject: Possible source of cheap X-Wing ships - Titanium series toys

I don't play the game, so I don't know how good a match they are, but I thought this might be of interest to you folks.
Today I saw X-wing miniatures in the flesh for the first time, and then later saw some Star Wars "Titanium series" spaceship toys in a department store - these ones. The X-wing had a wingspan of approximately 6cm, and the TIE fighter had a wingspan of approximately 4cm. Is this close to the size of FFG's miniatures? It would be worth comparing the size and detail of these toys with the official miniatures, because they are way cheaper.

Way larger, too; an X-Wing from FFG has a wingspan of ~40mm.

Why would you need alternate ships? Sure, you can reuse bases but you need the cardboard base inserts, maneuver dials, ship cards and upgrades from the ship packs.
Also, FFG has done a good job keeping most of the ships a good value for what you get... definitely in the "grab one when I go to my FLGS and don't have anything else to buy" price range.

Like I said, I don't play the game. I just thought that X-wings and TIE fighters at a third of the usual price was worth bringing up. If the scale is wrong and you need the feelies to play the game, it's obviously not that useful.

Micromachines from a while back are very close scale to X-Wing miniatures.
X-wings are pretty much dead on, MM tie fighters wings are slightly smaller but same cockpit and chassis.
I will probably make some modifications to be able to use my micromachine collection but only if I end up doing some 200pt games with what I have.
Otherwise the ships are pretty well priced and their detail / quality cannot be beat.

The Micro Machines ships have been re-released. One set has a T-70 in blue and white, Poe Dameron's black and orange ship (handy if you want to use that pilot without repainting a ship) and a couple of First Order TIE Fighters. That pack is a tenner for four ships (plus a couple of pilots and a ground vehicle); better than paying twelve quid for one, if all you need is an additional miniature (especially now you can buy additional bases, too). Buy one to get the pilot and upgrade cards (or simply look those up on the various squadron builder sites) and job's a good 'un
They'd also be useful as a source of parts for making debris fields.

Yup. I have some of the 90s vintage sets (and the x/y wings and ties were identical also).

The old micro machines work, especially if you're just looking for some scenery. I use an old Correllian blockade runner as an objective in armada. I long ago painted it and based it for BFG, so it works fine.
I have a few of the micro machine x-wings and tie fighters around, if I was getting consistent games in I'd probably chop them up to use as wreckage.
