Ok, the charnel cohort has its own set of special rules as a formation. One of which specifically states it affects the HQ choice selected if held in reserve. The other affects the other units within the formation when held in reserve but doesn't specifically state that the HQ must be held in reserve himself. The rule states that all other units in this formation that arrive from deep strike reserve don't scatter as long as they're placed within a certain distance of the formations HQ choice, and that they can do this even if arriving from reserve the same turb that the HQ has.
So, this is what I want to do. Take a winged daemon prince as the HQ. Fly him forward maximum distance turn one. Turn two drop to glide mode but at the same time have all his daemon friends drop in around him due to the cohort special rule. Namely 2 units of bloodletters.
So is this all legal and ok?

There is no guarantee the rest of the Formation will be able to arrive on turn two (unless you're cheating with your dice), but otherwise, it appears to be legal. The no scatter does not appear to be reliant on the HQ having been in Deep Strike Reserves.

Perfect. I know there's no guarantee....I get that part. It can be improved with reserves manipulation, but that's by the by. What I wanted to know was exactly what you answered thank you good sir. I was pretty sure it wasn't reliant on the HQ himself beginning in reserve, but I wanted to see what the community thought. I thought there *could be* an argument for him being required to start in deep strike reserve.

Trust me, someone will find a way to argue the fact. It may or may not rely on rules actually written anywhere, but there will always be someone to argue otherwise. I've seen it happen quite often here.
The closest I can find to a valid argument against it is that the rule starts off talking about the HQ being in Deep Strike Reserves, but there isn't anything actually to tie that that to the No Scatter portion aside from being in the same paragraph. But that is enough for some.

I was just trying to build a fluffy fun list for friendly games and stumbled across this little gem. Actually think it's pretty useful. Was wondering if you could arm the prince to the teeth, and with enough blood letters deep striking and then running you could land him and then kind of bubble wrap him.
