Hi! I've been following 40K for sometime, finally planning on starting an Chaos Space Marine Night Lords army, just some questions
1. Can an army only consist of units such as Raptors? Or must an army have infantry
2. Why do people I know hate Warp Talons so much? What gives the Raptors the superior advantage?
Looking forward to be apart of this forum! Death to the False Emperor!

Hi. Welcome to Dakka.
As for your questions
1. You could run an army of nothing but Raptors, you could run an Unbound army of nothing but Raptors. Alternatively you could run a CAD and run 2 min units of cultists as your troops, run a Lord w/Jump Pack, and then put in Raptors.
2. People dislike Warp Talons for a few reasons. One, they don't have grenades, so they suffer when charging a unit in cover. Two, they're overcosted for what they do, Raptors suffice, and they're cheaper to boot.
Now, I'm not a Chaos player, so my advice may or may not be all that helpful, but I hope it helps you a bit.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Welcome Shricus!
Why Raptors? Why not Tyrannosaurus Rexes?! haha I kid!
Personally I like Warp Talons but yeah... they're kind of overcosted for what you get... but they look wicked awesome!

Thanks all for the advice! These codexes puzzle me beyond belief...which is odd, perhaps either Tzeentch is playing mind games with me or I've spent too much time in the grimdark. One final thing:
I thought Raptors could only wield pistols and melee weapons. How come one of them carries a flamer? And how exactly does tournaments and Games Workshop differentiate between models. I mean, if I put lightning claws on Raptors or those wing bitz on Raptors would the Chaos Gods be displeased and force me to make them Talons? And what's with Warp Talons wielding weapons? I thought they could only use claws?!?!?

I wish I had the codex to be able to answer you on this one.
Perhaps the question might be better suited in one of the 40k sub forums?

War Kitten is absolutely right about this. I am a Chaos Space Marines Player, and I do have a unit of Warp Talons, it was a big mistake. The no assault grenades thing is a huge pitfall. In a battlefield strewn with terrain any decent player will make you charge them through cover, which means your attacking at initiative 1, plus their cost is around 300 points, way way too expensive. The best units in the CSM codex that you should bulk up on are the Heldrake (great for killing marines as its bale flamer has torrent, strength 6 ignores cover AP 3 and soul blaze, and its only 170 points and very hard to kill. I personally run 2) along with Obliterators with the mark of Nurgle. For troops run either 7 man squads of plague marines in Rhinos or big blobs of Cultists with a chaos lord to make them fearless. HQ's, avoid abbadon at all costs unless your opponent is Space Marines who roll very terminator heavy, thats the only time he's amazing. Kharn can be descent too, but he's easy to kill. Roll with a couple Chaos Sorcerers with spell familiars, they are 75 points each and can reroll their casts for summoning, which gives you bloodletters for free every turn. If your fighting orks try Noise Marines, as their 2/3 salvo bolters will blow them right off the board before they can get to you. I've fought in a couple of tournaments and these principles work pretty well. Please message me if you need any more help with Chaos Space Marines, i know how frustrating they can be for a new player and you end up wasting a lot of money on units because they look cool, but get you no return on the tabletop
