Subject: Imperial Guard Regiment Recruitment

Hey guys,
Are the soldiers for any given Imperial Guard Regiments only ever recruited from one world? Or can a regiment draw soldiers from a number of different planets (e.g. from two populated planets that orbit the same star)?
I read a couple of things that suggested that the answer to my first question was yes, but that answer didn't seem too concrete. I also considered that fact that if more than one world was used for recruitment for regiments, it would allow for more diversity in the regiment.
Cheers guys

Regiments can come from one planet (DKoK), a Solar System's worth of planets (Ultramar Auxilia), or dozens of Solar Systems (Cadians)

A single regiment is normally always recruited from a single world as part of that world's tithe.
However, during campaigns, understrenght regiments from different worlds can get merged with each other to form a new regiment. For example: the 182nd Catachan was merged with the 90th Elysian to create the 314th Prosan, experts in airborne jungle warfare.

Ahkk, Sweet as. Because I'm writing some fiction and wanted to have a system of planets with seven populated planets orbiting three stars, and was planning on having the Regiments named such that Regiments from all the planets orbiting one star take one name, and then all the planets orbiting another star taking another name, etc.

The Tanith 1st and Only contains recruits from three worlds: Tanith, Verghast, and Belladon. Fresh reserves from Belladon and Verghast arrive later in the series, but none from Tanith because, you know.

It probably depends on those recruiting worlds are governed. An IG regiment (usually) isn't important enough to get special treatment, the Imperium just shows up and says "give us some troops". If the two planets are governed by the same organization (two in the same system, for example) the recruits might be mixed or might not be, depending on their traditions, but they'd be presented to the IG as a single unit. If the two planets are governed separately then each governor would provide their own separate tithe of troops and nobody would ever bother trying to combine the two in some formal manner. And of course when they need to replace losses those replacements would be drawn from wherever is convenient.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |
