Hey Dakkaers;
I've been interested in doing commission painting for a long time (I enjoy painting up to generally tabletop quality level) and am pretty quick at it. I've put some of my Models below painted over the past couple years and wanted to know if you guys think I'm good enough for commission work. Honest opinions please.

You're certainly there. I'd suggest taking some better example pics (fully based and on a blank background like your skaven) before you go touting, but it's very neat work.

GREAT painting, but . . . Why would you choose unbased models for showcasing your work? Doesn't matter how good the painting is, you know as a serious hobbyist that basing can add an extra point or two to a model's quality. I grew VERY IRRITATED at seeing no basing or completely snoozefest work by the third or fourth pic. Again, the painting is worth buying, and ultimately your success will be based on your pricing/time to complete the work.

Here you go, snapped some more of some of my more recent stuff. Still trying to work out the quirks of my homemade light box.

Sorry, I assure you I don't leave any of my "completed" models unbased, it's one of my favorite parts I was just giving some rough examples but I understand your point. The pics I just posted are all based up!

If your camera will shoot RAW or high quality jpg, I sincerely recommend picking up a copy of Lightroom, doesn't have to be current.
It allows you to carefully and subtly control the whitebalance and develop your "negative" (RAW) to accurately show the colours of your models.
It's a long time since I've had time to sit and work with it properly, but here's an example.
...My camera does not know what year it is.
Edit: Better example.

Looks great, I think you have a good understanding matching colors and washes well. I personally like the muted / realistic color palettes you are using.
Since you are asking for criticism:
I didn't see much edge highlighting / eyes / freehand. Things that I consider hard
The bases could use more love and detail.
Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words! I usually don't edge highlight just because I think a similar effect can be achieved through other methods, plus close up I think it looks kinda strange on models unless it's expertly done. That's just my preference though. I do however highlight key features of models such as teeth, eyes on less humanoid creatures, and just little things that make them pop (strap buckles, random pieces of clothing etc). I think accentuating the important parts of a model makes a pretty big difference for minimal effort.
I'd try free handing some days, but my OCD would go off if it wasn't perfect - so I usually don't
Still looking for more opinions, I might take a stab at putting a portfolio together and doing some cheap commissions!

Your painting is pretty good. Better than mine, certainly! You said you already have gone back and based some of that stuff, so show us!
