Spoiler:
So I like 7th edition. I have played 1 game with daemonkin and enjoyed it. I likes the fluffs but dont want to get kerbstomped by listhammering cheese mongers.
I sold my nurgle csm and blood angels due to divorce (¥a¥). I have an unfinished metal + current tank Steel Legion force that is in storage on the back burner. I used to play crons but sold them after they got boring/OP
I also have a mish mash of salamanders in different states of painting due to evolving paint skill/schemes over the last 19 years which do the drop pod melta / dread thing quite well.

First World Dilemma; I want to do new space marines. Thing is I'm stuck between chapters or heresy.

Heresy: has to be salamanders, but its doing the same army again. Sort of.

Looking at the unique FW chapter rules I would lime to build a fluffy yet strong force capitalising on their chapter tactics/commander trait, I've narrowed it down to: Mantis Warriors, Raptors, Minotaurs or Sons of Medusa (maybe maybe executioners)

If Im honest Im leaning towards the raptors and minotaurs but cant decide between the two;

Raptors: Pros: Reasonable marines, can use 10th company formation for fluff, Lias Issadron is awesome. Cons - No FW support (shoulder pads, vehicle doors) not a fan of centurions in a 'stealthy' force and im told that they are good. Though i guess if some tanks are ok..? Tactics are of limited benefit?

Minotaurs - Pros - shiny color scheme, moloch is a beast, can take the fear causing 1st company formation for coolness. FW support (shoulder pads, vehicle doors etc) Cons- a bit mono dimensional (charge and smash), need expensive pts wise chapter master to get best results

Tnoughts, input and abuse welcome!

I've played a few games using raptors and they can be quite good fun. Although we don't have resin doors and shoulder pads, you can get a transfer sheet.

Forge World don't do shoulder pads anymore (They used to Terminator shoulderpads, I was thinking of using some for another chapter) but they still do vehicle doors and a Raptors transfer sheet.

I'm about 90% sure Raptors have doors. 40% sure they have shoulder pads... There was a homebrew/maybe Storm Eagle Chapter that popped up on an ebay seller I follow with doors and I want to say they had the shoulder pads. Just not painted Raptor colors. Still a Bird of Prey head.

Raptors are a pretty competitive choice. If you play at a place that allows named Forge World characters in a Gladius, so Issodon would be a Chapter Master replacement in the Command slot, that's about the third best thing you can do with Marines in my opinion. Top two are still Scars (Bikes) and Ultramarines (Skyhammer) but again, just one person's opinion and shouldn't be taken as scripture.

Issodon allows some very good shenanigans with the 1st Company Taskforce as well. Infiltrate some Sternguard, Infiltrate some Scouts, half your army is now in the places you want them to be at. Infiltrate some Devestators and you have an unorthodox sort of Alpha Strike available. The best thing though is that you can build a list with a lot of options and decide on a game plan when you see your opponent's army. Even in a CAD, especially in a CAD, you can choose to Infiltrate some Grav Cents, or use a Fast Attack slot to Pod them in, and if you don't use the Pod, you can throw some CombiMelta Sternguard in the Pod, or Infiltrate the Sternguard to hold a good position on the table. So many ways to make it work.

Minotaurs look awesome. That's about it. I've been trying to convince a friend to get them purely for the aesthetics and 3rd party companies also make some amazing bits for them. I'd like to see more people building an army that looks as good as that. Fear is pretty much not something worth noting. It just doesn't influence the armies it needs to. Eldar and Tau and Necrons, the ones that don't have as common of an answer to Fear, don't need the buff that Fear would give your units to kill them. Close with them and you're likely going to survive it anyway. The only things that you WANT to cast Fear on are almost always immune to it.

That said, you could just use Raven Guard stuff for Raptors:
