I cant seem to make a decision on this one.
Pros:
Turn 1 Assault "guaranteed"
easy D-strike to a scary vehicle target
safest way i can think of to insert 20 zerkers into an opponents face before they get shot to oblivion
Cons:
expensive
i have the worst scatter rolls in my gaming group
a 260 point model for a one shot D weapon

Is it a formation that can be taken with Chaos Daemons and/or Renegades also? Are the rules still available or will I have to look into nefarious sources to get them?

Formations can always be allied with whoever. it is battle brother with daemons and renegades.
The rules are easy to find online. To get in person you have to go to warhammer world nottingham.( or ebay)
I'm undecided. 700 points is a lot. but you do get to break the game. there's a power build here, haven't found it yet.
Certainly not strong enough to invest in a kharybdis. Automatically Appended Next Post: Scatter isn't much of an issue, as this one actually has inertial guidance. The d strike is a trap IMO, as you get immobilised.a mobile kharybdis is still very much a threat. Automatically Appended Next Post: and don't forget the load of pinning shots it comes with.
other con: possessed, so no legacyies, and 1/6 chance of eating a bezerker.

You can outright KILL a Knight with the thing, making back half your points from it. Or outright D a Riptide or what have you, jump out, obliterate what ever you want with Charging Zerkers whos champion wields an Axe of Khorne for AP2 at initiative str5 on the Charge with 2 more attacks.
Its a nice Fortmation, Ive made great use of it. Drop on a gunline, Str D what you land on, assault what ever you decide needs to die make back double your points value in what ever just got squashed.
This will also make minced meat out of the New Tau D Line

I don't get people who think you can charge on T1 with this.
Yes, you get turn 1 DS with the claw.
Yes, you can charge out of the claw.
but AFAIK, nothing lets the zerkers the ability to charge out of reserves. only out of the claw. (and unlike regular pods, this makes perfect sense as you don't have to leave a claw, and the claw can be running around on the table all game long if it wants)

It already is an assault vehicle. It has an additional rule which allows you to assault 'the turn you disembark' which is a stupid way of saying it , but also includes the first turn.

Why stupid. It means if you scatter badly and end up outside the board edge and get delayed, you can still charge emidiately next time you come in.

The D strike is nice, but doesnt the rule state it has to be resolved against either a vehicle or building only? so no Wraithknight/riptide hunting, correct?

That's correct. Probably worth it against imperial knights. Not much else.
