as the topic title says, I wish there were more options for a space marine captain to be a primary shooting HQ. I was wondering what others thought of the idea.

One thing i was thinking was something similar to davian thule in DOW 2. Maybe a relentless HB with strern guard ammo up to match the HB strength ?

Actually, SisterSydney had an idea along these lines for the Adepta Sororitas Canoness. Probably something similar could be adapted for the Captain, based on his career path before becoming a Captain.

I'll have to look at that. My main issue is every time i try to build a demi company, the HQ unit feels like a tax. Most units in a demi company don't want to be in combat we're both a captain and Chaplin are kinda useless they are in combat.

I mean, they work out fairly well in the mandatory unit of Assault Marines, but even they aren't that great. On the other hand, with a well-kitted Captain and Chaplain along, they can do better than you might think. Still, I'd rather have the option to have a Captain that would serve a useful purpose with Devastators, Tactical Marines or Sternguard, even...

as an iron hands player i know that i can make a solo captain on a bike that can eat up almost anything. I ususally use my FA requirement for speeders in the Demi Company. It just bothers me that the captain who is supposed to be a great tactition who can fill the gap with any squad in the background doesn't have a decent build besides a beat stick.
