So ive had these 6 stealth suits for eons (theyre metal, if that says anything) and never bothered painting them since their rules are meh i rarely use them.

However in light of the Ghostkeel, i now have needs of a model that gives off the vibe of active camo fields rather than just normal paintjob.

EDIT: Reuploaded and removed the color correction Dakka likes to do. It kinda made the lower half too dark.

I am practicing on my stealthsuits for obvious reasons lol.

The white line is suppose to be the edge of the cloaking field. Im not one for competitive-level painting so i threw the idea of painting scenery like the sky, earth, and rocks.
Tau stealth technology to me is more along the lines of invisibility than simply camo like modern day military uses. I thought the best way to show its an illusion that makes them invisible is to have the normal Tau colors appear in various parts of the suit.

Problem is, this feels a little ... cheap lol. It conveys what i want but im not sure if its a good idea to use. Any thoughts on improving it, or should i just go with my normal scheme and forget the camo fields? Any input is greatly appreciated

Oh, and this was done in like 20 minutes or something short like that. If i were to do this i would make a much cleaner line and add some edgings to the uncloaked parts.

For those wondering, this is my normal color scheme:
Spoiler:

More in my siggy if you care to see different models.

I think it's a pretty good start, although like you said you could make the lines thinner and cleaner to help the effect. I'm not sure on the actual Fire Warriors though; all the different colours on them make them look a bit...Harlequin-ish.

the colors on the firewarriors are squad designations. Only reason i posted them instead of my suits which dont have the bright colors on the shoulderpads is because these particular stealth suits look like beefed up firewarrior armor to me. The helmets on my other suits are white for normal models and red for characters with both red and white for commanders

I admit, the more i look at it the more i like it as it is. Just a cleanup job on the white lines really.

Still cant shake the feeling theres something i could do to make the rest of it not feel like a base color drybrushed with another color lol. Its probably my personal problem of insisting on painting modeled on detail thats getting in the way, as this scheme completely kills that mentality lol

I think it looks like a good start. Another brighter highlight on the cloaking part to make it more shmmery, and perhaps a stippled effect to the white line, mixing it a little with the blue?

You mean like have the side going to the blue be more of a subtle shift rather than a hard line?

Thought about that. Im terrible at on-model mixing though lol. I might be able to kill the hard-white-line on the camo side if i use tweezers and a tiny piece of foam though now that i think about it....

Actually just by adding the edging work and cleaning up the line makes it look pretty good.

I was thinking of doing something siimilar.
Albeit with clear Resin recasts.
I have some infinity minis I want done in clear resin for some similar effects.
So its a long on going project of mine.

I think the main problem with what you've got now is there's just not much contrast between the "cloaked" and "uncloaked" sides. It looks like a fairly normal model with a weird white line across it, you have to look at it carefully to even tell that it's a stealth unit. What you want to do is have really high contrast (color/brightness/etc) between the camo side and the standard paint scheme so that even from a distance it's very obvious what's happening. Here's an example of what I mean:

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
