Had a try last night at the WD89 mini-game Godbreaker Clash. We've really found it quite fun!
No pictures, sadly, as my phone is inept.
Forces:
Knight Warden Invictus (Avenger Gatling Cannon & Heavy Flamer, Rapid-Fire Battlecannon, Twin Icarus Cannons, Heavy Stubber)
Knight Gallant Iron Lance (Reaper Chainsword, Thunderstrike Gauntlet, Stormspear Rocket Pod, Meltagun)
Turn 1:
The two knights start 24" apart, and reveal their actions. Invictus has gone with an Aimed Attack to try and damage the melee knight's legs and slow it down, whilst Iron Lance has taken Snap Attack, Advance, and Rotate Ion Shields - aiming to close the range and (hopefully) not take too much punishment in return.
Iron Lance's Stormspear fires first, the rockets scattering wide of Invictus' head and slamming into the carapace. With a saving throw of a '6', the Invictus' armour held.
Iron Lance then advanced to 18" range, and powered it's ion shield to try and minimise the punishment coming back the other way.
The Invictus' avenger gatling hit the knight's right knee, but the ion shield stopped it thanks to the improved saving throw (with no AP value it's one of the only 'big guns' really worth using ion shields against). The rapid-fire battlecannon and heavy stubber struck the same spot, but again the damage was soaked up. Finally, the icarus cannons put two points of damage through the armour - enough to seriously damage the leg, but not enough to reduce the Iron Lance's speed.
Turn 2:
The knights used the same actions again this turn.
The Stormspear hits again - on the left carapace this time - causing 2 damage on the Invictus' upper armour. The Knight Warden's return fire again concentrates on the legs. The avenger cannon is again stopped by the ion shield, whilst the rapid-fire battlecannon scatters and strikes the reaper chainsword, causing serious but sadly not critical damage. The heavy stubber also scatters - hitting the knight's lower torso for some cosmetic damage - before the heavy flamer (which the Iron Lance has finally advanced into range of) manages to cause the last point of damage to destroy the right knee. The Icarus cannons switch target to the left knee, but are deflected by the armour.
Iron Lance has had one location destroyed and will be moving 1" less each time it moves from now on.
Turn 3
Invictus goes for Snap Attack and Back-Up, trying to keep the range open. Iron Lance uses Advance and Charge - forsaking the Ion Shield's protection to try and get within blades-reach of its opponent now it's moving slower.
Invictus' less accurate fire is simply aimed at the Iron Lance's centre torso and let fly. The gatling cannon and twin icarus miss entirely, and the battlecannon strikes the upper carapace to no effect. The heavy stubber takes off a single armour point on the thunderstrike gauntlet whilst the Iron Lance (again) takes a heavy flamer to the knee (queue Skyrim jokes) but this time doesn't suffer enough damage to slow it further.
Iron Lance advances - but only 5" due to the damage to its leg. Invictus then backs up 3"....and Iron Lance's charge action only rolls a '2'. Given the damage, that's only a 1" advance, leaving the two engines 8" apart and just out of reach of Iron Lance's deadly melee weapons. A snap-fired stormspear rocket goes high and passes over the Invictus' carapace.
Turn 4
Invictus goes back to shooting again; Rotate Ion Shields and Standard Attack. Back-up brought a turn, but that's it without more damage to the gallant's legs. Iron Lance goes with Advance and Standard Attack.
Iron Lance closes to 3" apart - now within melee range and ready to swing, whilst Invictus powers its shields against the incoming melee attacks. A 6+ save isn't much, but it's better than nothing - and might stop the secondary weapons. With both using a standard attack, the two knights roll off to see who attacks first - and the Gallant wins the critical roll. The Iron Lance fires its stormspear - missing high again despite the steadier shot, but its meltagun puts a point of damage into the gatling cannon. More importantly, the thunderstrike guantlet and reaper chainsword lash out for the first time, smashing the icarus cannons and heavy stubber clean off in two blows.
Invictus is on the back foot - most of its secondary weapons lost - and to make matters worse, it's attempt to pour fire into the damaged reaper chainsword goes awry - every shot scattering right or high of the weapon.
Turn 5
Both knights go hell-for-leather with attacks - Snap Attack, Standard Attack. Iron Lance doesn't care about the penalty for snap attacks because the melee weapons don't scatter, and Invictus can't afford to wait long enough in the turn for an aimed attack because it'll be torn to pieces first; it's only hope is to disable one of the weapons before it strikes the second time.
Invictus gets its snap attacks off first, but misses with everything again; gatling bursts, battlecannon shells and a heavy flamer burst all going wide of the reaper chainsword. In return, Iron Lance hammers the gatling cannon arm with both melee weapons, smashing both it and the integral heavy flamer.
The knight warden does fire its sole remaining weapon - its rapid-fire battlecannon - first - but that goes wide again. Finally, Iron Lance delivers a coup de grace - the thunderstrike gauntlet wrenching Invictus' tilt shield from its shoulder mount, before the reaper chainsword slams into the knight's head and destroys it. Invictus collapses, leaking smoke.
The fight was fairly one-sided once the Gallant got into combat and the Warden decided to start shooting at the local wildlife rather than its opponent, but matters could easily have gone the other way. One more point of damage to the Iron Lance's left knee would have taken out a second leg section, reducing it to 4" advance moves and D6-2" charge moves - which in turn could easily have translated into another turn or more before the melee weapons hit home.
