I'm adding TWC to my Space Wolves army, I see how they got 2nd place of 60 contestants here at the Lansing Michigan GT's (essentially, it was them. 3x Iron Priests w/ 4 Cyberwolves each)...

Leaves me to question:
-) Is it the impressive damage they deal w/ Thunderhammers and Servo-Arms?
Or
-) The T5 w/ 2+ Saves, able to Look-Out-Sir w/ 2+'s?

I ask, because I'm using a drop pod start to my list
(Here's the 2 GH squads:
Spoiler:
)
-) 8 GH in power armour: Plasma rifle, Powerfist
W/ Wolf Pack Leader: Terminator armour, Storm Shield, Meltabombs, Combi-Plasma.

-) 5 GH in power armour: Meltagun, Powerfist
W/ Wolf Pack Leader: Terminator armour, Storm Shield, Meltabombs, Combi-Melta.

W/ Ulrik for Preferred Enemy
W/ Njal who's in Terminator armour, going Biomancy for FnP(4+) & Eternal Witness (for unit resilience)

And using 2x Iron Priests w/ 4 Cyberwolves each - in a unit together, charging up the field for hopeful 2nd turn assault.

?: is it that they're using impressive them Vs all weaponry, that makes them so potent
?: or is it that they have T5 wounds to hide behind, delivery a CC package?

And ultimately -
Is fielding a tough, unignorable, duo of GH droppods to land in their faces in range of 2nd turn charge hopefully deterring fire from the Iron Priests,
Is it enough that they've got 8 wounds to hide behind,
or is it necessary to add a pack of Fenrisian Wolves to give them more wound-soak to make it into combat?

If I need to, I'll field a 3rd Iron Priest to join them (w/ 4 more cyberwolves) ,emulating they GT champ
But I'm wondering if it's more that they're awesome -offensively- in CC that makes them so great (than the many, many wounds to hide in)

Thank you so much for your comments!
I really appreciate it

They are good for 3 reasons, you named 2. The 3rd is that they are incredibly fast, ignoring difficult terrain with a 12" move. The durability is also helped by the storm shields (lots of 3++ invul saves) and fenrisian wolves you can take as ablative wounds. Its size and ability to multi-charge is also a bonus.

What makes them exemplary and a cornerstone of tournament-winning lists is the fact that they combine all 3 of these traits into a single unit.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

Thank you!
I've added a pack of 5 fenrisian wolves to them,

Iron Priest w/ Thunderwolf Mount:
-) comes from Grimnars War Council, so fearless
-) 4 Cyberwolves

Iron Priest w/ Thunderwolf Mount:
-) 4 Cyberwolves

5 fenrisian wolves

All in one unit, pushing towards turn 2 CC

Hoping this'll make up for the lack of Storm Shields, the 13 models of T5.
Otherwise, fast and potent.
rawesome!

STormshields are important against grav armies.

Aftermath can be calculated.

Hmmm....

3 TWC:
-) 3 SS
-) 3 Power Swords

Same cost as:

8x Cyberwolves
5x Fenrisian Wolves

Or, best of both worlds:

3x TWC: 1 SS
4x Cyberwolves

Which is better?...
(Maybe I should include, that I regularly face Imperial Knights & S10 AP1 pie plates

And then it hits me...

If I'm using them as wound soaks, why not just roll a pack of 15 Fenrisian Wolves for 120, and have 40 points left for something else... t4 but that's ok lol!

Yah?
