Quick question:

I'm looking to get my guard army to become GW store legal, and of all the GW website guard units available, I've been looking at those crazy bastards the most.

My question is though, in the main "10 man" box, it says there's options for 2 guys on a HB, a flamer, etc..... If I build the heavy bolter, am I basically out 2 guys, or how are the parts set up so that I can replace my illegal infantry (when I built the army, I only had an FLGS and ran WGF models for most of my infantry)

Basically, I'm needing 8 squads, plus my 3 command squads, so I'd really like to know how the pieces are set up in relation to the HWT in the box and such.

The squad is legal, as it can have a HWT and a SW in a 10 man squad; know that the vostroyans are metal, so its very hard to convert them with different weapons. you can get some 3rd party vostroyanish guys from madrobot or Victoria miniatures to supplement the metal vostroyans.

What I'm asking though is, with the way the base 10 come, do I *need* to build one pair as a HB team, or can I build 10 standing up firing dudes?

The way I tend to run my guard means that my Heavy weapons end up in their own squads, not in the base units.

It comes with 8 standing guys and 1 heavy weapon team. No options, What you see is what you get.

K, thanks...

It's a a bit more money, but works out quite well for the numbers of bodies I need

Yup, I have them, they are really beautiful miniatures, but no options. Though GW does sell additional 3-man blisters for if you want to leave out the HWT. Expensive, but definitely worth it if you see them next to the fugly Cadian gorillas.

Yeah. They're metal so What you see is what you get.

I did a quick conversion to make the HBs all Lascannons, that was easy enough with spare bits I had lying about.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I have a full Vostroyan guard army, consisting of about 70+ infantry (One CCS, one PCS, multiple special weapons including four converted meltagunners, three plasmagunners, four flamers, one converted Heavy Flamer, a couple of grenade launchers and numerous converted voxcasters, in addition to three lascannon heavy weapon teams).

They are, in my opinion, some of the best imperial guard infantry GW has ever produced. They are in scale, and look proportional compared to your average current space marine on a 32mm base. The limited variety of poses does hamper a little bit, but not enough to be a problem in my opinion.

I suggest buying three 10 man squad boxes and a trio of the 3x Vostroyan lasgunner infantry squad blister packs to be able to run three 10 man infantry squads with either the two wound heavy bolter heavy weapon base, sergeant, special weapon, and six lasgunners (also, several of the Vostroyans are very easy to convert into voxcaster carriers, just have to file the back of their backpack flat and glue a plastic voxcaster to them.), or run eight lasgunners, a special weapon, and a sergeant.

Either way, you'll have three 'spare' vostroyans with lasguns to fill out a bare bones Company Command or Platoon Command squad if you wish.

Past that, for heavy weapons, I highly suggest picking up a few of the lascannon bases, as the two infantry (Gunner/Spotter) work well with the tripod in there and can easily be used with both the plastic guardsman heavy weapon team autocannon, as well as the plastic heavy bolter and lascannon if you prefer the plastic one to the metal one that comes in the kit. That'll give you some variety if you choose to run a heavy weapon in a squad.

Lastly, special weapons. You have Grenade Launchers, Flamers, and Plasma Guns, as well as sniper rifles too. The flamers are extremely easy to convert to Meltaguns if you just use some spare meltaguns and replace the flamer nozzle with the meltagun barrel. I've done this on four as I mentioned and they look flawless. The only special weapon that's a little harder to come by is the Heavy Flamer which requires a bit more work/effort to make look right using the standard Flamer Vostroyan.

If you'd like any help or need examples there Ensis, feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll offer what insight I can.

For the Emperor, and Vostroya!

Take it easy.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

Honestly, I'd say they're worth it if you see them next to any other models, even the good ones! Vostroyans are some of the best models GW's ever made as far as I'm concerned.

Good deal, thanks for that man.

As is, my intention is to "replace" the non-GW infantry I have... as such I "need" 3 command squads, a total of four sniper rifles and a total of 80 guardsmen (I normally run 2 platoons of 4 squads each)

From here, it's the long, slow process of buying the boxes as I can
