So I have a starter set and also added a unit of Judicators with bows and Chaos Spawn. I find that the Stormcast will have the upper hand and out of the 5 games I have played are 5-0. My son really wants to add some stuff to both armies, in particular a Celestant Prime. I am wondering what I can add to the other side to balance it out. My thoughts were Skarbrand or Soulgrinder and either a Slaughterpriest, Skullgrinder or Exalted Deathbringer and the Trinity of those 2 plus the Mighty Lord of Khorne walking around in Bloodsecrator range maybe with a unit of wrathmongers behind them providing supporting attacks and their extra attack buff. They definitely need more rending, also open to other chaos options. Since this will be mainly for playing with my boy and for demoing the big thing I want here is fun secondary is a more fair battle between the 2. I also have a 2nd starter set, I have not ripped into it yet but do have those additional models too.

It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. I think there are a wide variety of things to you could do to give poor Khorne a boost. The Khorne guys really have to take advantage of their synergies to stand a chance against the Stormcast, out of the box. Add some extra shooting with the Judicators and it's a really tough game for Khorne (Spawn or not). My view is, whatever you choose to add to Khorne do it incrementally and see what happens. Drop in a Hellcannon and play a few games and see how that changes the dynamic (a lot!). Or a Chimera. Now Khorne has a very mobile, very dangerous shooty thing for the Stomcast to handle - pulls attention away from your bloodreaver mob and you can more easily get those synergies to work and do some real damage. I think adding Skarbrand would more than make up for the addition of the Celestant-Prime - but I could be wrong about that.

Skarbrand would be a nice balance against the Celestant-Prime, and the Soulgrinder is fairly nasty. You also cannot go wrong with the characters you mention, though on their own they won't swing things - they really kick in when they are supporting other units.

If you don't want to dive straight into the really powerful stuff, you can go a long, long way with the addition of, say, two boxes of Blood Warriors. They can take advantage of all the synergies Khorne forces have, come with the same Save as Stormcasts, the same Wounds, and tend to kill the enemy when they die or pass their Saves - it can make the Stormcasts really hesitant about attacking them, and your son will agonise over whether he wants to do it.

Which would be a lot of fun

Add three boxes of Blood Warriors (or two and a box of the Mighty Skullcrushers), and you might just find that they alone give that Celestant-Prime something to think about!

Thanks guys. I plan on getting the Khorne Battalions through the app today and see what direction I want to lean. The only thing I'm not crazy on the Bloodwarriors is no rend. But I guess I can get a box and convert up a goreglaive so I can run 2 units of 10 with goreglaives.

Bloodletters can take advantage of the Bloodsecrator's +1 attack and can be quite nasty with the mortal wound on 6s.

Yeah, I second the bloodletters. They really help with the rend and the mortal wounds. They also synergise well with the bloodsecrator to create a real solid troop unit with lots of stopping power.

Another voice for bloodletters, and throw in a herald as well. The totem chap (can't remember his name) get another one. The buff to your units' bravery really helps prevent battleshock loses.
