The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.
"the play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king,
still not entirely sold on Krysten Ritter, but I greatly enjoyed DD so I will give it a watch. Also because Luke Cage is awesome, and I'm looking forward to segueing into Iron Fist.
This should be great. DD was utterly fantastic and very dark, and this looks to try and one-up that even (it's loosely based on the Alias comic series, which is apparently darker than a black hold, at night, with the lights off and your eyes shut). I get the impression David Tennant is going to be stellar as the uber-freaky Purple Man as well.
Just read up on this Purple Man character. Pretty neat powers! Though he seems to be a bit more sadistic on this series, than he appears in the comics. How does Jessica Jones get her powers by the way? Is she Inhuman?

More sadistic in this? Depends on the comic run you look at, really. If you want to see how utterly fethed up and creepy he is in some comics, check out a summary of the Alias comic series that this is loosely based on. Put it this way, there's a reason it was the first marvel comic run aimed solely at adults, and it's more for the absolute darkness and depravity of Purple Man's hold over Jones than the (frequent) language/gore/nudity.
So yeah, anyone who grew up to Tennant as Dr Who, prepare to have a childhood icon turn into nightmare fodder...
After this and DD, DC are going to have to up their game to reclaim their title as the 'dark side' of comics... I find it rather funny that Flash is basically what you'd expect from a Marvel series, bright, full of quips and basically fun, while Daredevil and Jessica Jones are going to be the exact opposite, what you might expect from a DC source material...

Ya, the dude is strait up Fracking evil! Ic cant wait
I don't really know much about The Purple Man beyond his obsession with Jones and the ability to get people to do whatever he wants by speaking so it should be interesting to see how they deal with him.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

This is out now. I'm one episode in- it is going to be a very slow burn, much more psychological than Daredevil- which had you hooked after the first fight scene.
In the eternal words of Neil Gaiman this series is "Black as night, sweet as sin."
Klawz-Ramming is a subset of citrus fruit?

Orkeosaurus, on homophobia, the nature of homosexuality, and the greatness of George Takei.
English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleyways and mugs them for loose grammar.
Agreed. Very much slower and more psychological than DD. Don't like the numerous sex scenes. Not in a Marvel show. Still a fantastic first four episodes. Will keep watching.
Also, check out my history blog: Minimum Wage Historian, a fun place to check out history that often falls between the couch cushions.

So you're OK with a guy getting his head smashed to pulp with a car door, or a guy driving his own face into a metal spike in DD... but not with the sex scenes in JJ. Riiight....

Eh, I can respect that MWHistorian. My wife didn't want anything to do with Daredevil because she knew how ridiculously violent it was. I think here the sex is bound to be an integral part of Jessica's character arc. Coming from the traumatic screwed up relationship she was in, and being unable to tell if she's being sarcastic or not most of the time, we need a way to gauge her return to a semblance of normal intimacy. It certainly doesn't feel anything like fanservice.
All the random folks doing the nasty in the nastiest ways possible is driving home just which circle of Hell's kitchen she's inhabiting. Blast. And now I'll forever think of Hell's Kitchen as a modern Dante's Inferno.
I know they have the Marvel label attached to them- but these Netflix Original series are a whole other animal. I'm going to call them NO Marvel, from here on out. These series just defy all expectations when compared to the rest of the Marvel Universe.

Well there's clearly some continuity, cause DareDevil is set after the Chitauri attack in New York. So we might see Jessica Jones appear in DareDevil or vice versa...
Except the ending. I don't get why she just started deleting all the messages and sat there staring into the middle distance.
Because she's angsting and that's edgy.
Also yeah. Daredevil was violent, but calling ridiculously so seems a tad much
I think that the violent label, especially the ridiculously violent label, is partly because it is usually compared to network shows. So compared to what you might usually see on network or cable TV it was quite a bit more graphic about the violence.
I think that if you wanted to compare it to other cable TV shows it should really be compared to HBO/Cinemax/Showtime though, and once you compare it to stuff produced by those guys it really felt like the graphic violence level compared pretty well to stuff that they put out.
