Here is my attempt at making a Space Marine scout sniper with a Ghillie Suit. I used some cheese cloth, airbrushed it with some reaper olive drab and jungle moss. Then using some green, brown and tan thread for sewing, I cut small strips, separated them to about two or three strings at a time, and used white Elmer's glue to attach time. Started at the bottom and overlapped the layer above.
I'm thinking of adding some to the barrel rifle, and also thinking about just doing a light airbrushing with the olive drab to make it more dull looking, since the thread is shiny.
So what does everyone think about my attempt? Any criticism is appreciated.

I think the colours you picked are bang on. I'm not sure though that there's enough of the miniature showing yo give it a sense of scale. To me it looks like a clump of threads, not a scale model.

Which is exactly the problem, it is literally too perfect.
That said, you could probably save on models this way as you only need gun barrels

Kb_lock, that is a good one. Just make a tent with a rifle sticking out of it. Would be cheaper for sure.
I wonder if it would look better on a larger base, with some bushes or a tree next to it.
Could be better for a diorama then as a figure for a battle, or I just have to just do the cloak, so you can see the model from one side.

I think the strands you've used a a little large and a bit long, however it's still great!
I get the feeling that there would probably be an enviroment where your envisagement would be spot-on, it's just that this is what i think of when someone says 'ghillie suit'...

Just don't ever play this squad on a jungle-themed board, you'll get home, knowing you're missing something, then a few days later remember you deployed your Scout squad next to a clump of bushes... As mentioned, the colours are bang on. It'd be great to see this idea incorporated into a larger diorama, as it's nice and subtle, and in the right context could look perfect!

Yes there is a scout in there, one of the SM snipers kneeling, the old metal one.

Yeah, I think you are right, a bit smaller would look a bit better, especially with this scale. Though will be harder to do, since they are smaller, haha.

That would be hilarious to have them camouflage that well to forget about them all together. I do think this would look good in a diorama setting for sure.
Thanks guys for all the input, still a work in progress, I'll have to mess with it some more, see what I can change to make it even better. For sure, the cheese cloth is the material of choice for camo netting if anyone else is thinking of trying this on figures or vehicles.
Something I was just thinking of trying, using the cheese cloth as the cloak, then taking smaller bits of it as the foliage instead of the threads. I'm going to try this and see how it turns out, if it looks good, I'll post it on here.

I would have had a section of the model visible; perhaps he might have peeled a little bit of the suit back?
Also, camouflage is about keeping a low profile, right? :p

Talking about leaving a camo model on the table I have black burned out buildings and I had unpainted/black primed scouts and left a full squad on the table for a few days until I tried to paint them and was frantically searching around haha. Ive seen some really awesome camo scouts before and this one is also cool I just think too little model showing would be amazing in a diorama though.
