Just got in my last two Maulerfiends I needed and got them assembled.

What do you folks think of the below and how well it will perform at an event?

Looks sensible for the most part - I just feel that a soulgrinder without some sort of weapon upgrade is a bit of a waste.

They provide AA if needed, otherwise they can deepstrike in/cover the backfield as needed. I would love to have them equiped with phlegm or at least torrent, but alas, the points do not allow...

Is the brass scorpion really that good? I feel like he is super expensive for his use.

I have only used him in one event so far...and I won it handidly. He is suprisingly durable and with a 3d6 charge and d3+2 stomps, he's already a CC beast without the Rage and other bonus attacks the formation gives him. He's just fun to run and watching him stomp over half a decurion into the dirt makes me feel warm on the inside.

The brass scorpion is a "bully" - multiple stomps, front armour 14 and great crowd control weapons with lots of ignores cover.

Against "normal" units its great, but it comes badly unstuck against melee armed enemy superheavies. A pack of lashers maulerfiends in support goes a long way to levelling the playing field, though.

Exactly locarno24. Im pretty sure Im boned against more than 3 knights (and 3 will be really tough). But I also want to play this list. Ive run the Brass Scorpion with Belakor and daemon support and he was able to chew through 3 knights whilst invisible and a 3++, but that l REALLY like the idea of 9 massive models on the board.

Where do you find the rules for this formation please?

The blood oath supplement is exclusive to warhammer world Nottingham.

Excellent, thank you. Found online and ordered.

......You know, I never really thought about the impact of the multiple stomps rule - each template has to be within 3" of the last marker, which itself is 3" across.

Even allowing for a few inches lost here and there, you're moving 4-5" forwards with each marker - theoretically you could stomp something nearly 2' away from you with a good stomp roll and good positioning....

If you can get the brass scorpion "trapped" in a tarpit in the middle of your opponent's lines this could be ridiculous - your opponent can't shoot it, and can't damage it without getting into fighting range - and if it's buried in a big unit there's no 'space' left for charge it - whilst it ineffectually squishes a few guardsmen each turn then stomps the hell out of some poor command section/tank/whatever 18" away!

Which is why I check on a TOs ruling on Stomping out of CC before an event. Stomping a unit Praetorians whilst fighting some wraiths was fun.

I fought this list (tweaked a little bit) at an RT here a couple weeks ago and it was a bear to fight. Sqweaked out a turn 6 win with my eldar once I blew up the scorpion. His list had:

Brass scorpion
decimator
2x flamer drakes
soul grinder
mauler fiend
3x blood slaughterers

I feel like I'm missing something but it was 2000 points of pain. Ended up shooting the scorpion to death, which wasn't my plan. I wanted my WK to kill it with his d-sword but he kept dancing around the middle terrain to where i'd be swinging last and I wasn't about to do that with no invis or fortune. (didn't roll invis and only had 1 farseer) Lots of lances did the trick (fire prism, twin-lance wave serpent and a wraithlord wtih a lance)

Cool list for sure. Fought his decimator at the end once everything was done and he had like 10 attacks base lol

I do like the bonus attacks (and possibly more from blood tithe)
Kinda makes the helldrakes a waste as they don't benefit.

The Heldrakes provide the ability to remove units that are far away from the rest of the formation, which is invaluable in an environment where MSU is coming back strong. Also, D3 str 7 vector strikes is pretty useful VS flyers. Not to mention late game objective scoring/contention in hover mode.

Agreed. whilst theoretically you could take a scorpion and 8 maulerfiends, I'd always want at least a couple of heldrakes in practice - you need them for flak coverage (well, vector strike coverage).

A storm talon can burn it up to the backfield and do quite nasty damage to the scorpion in a single turn with its weak rear armour - one vector strike can dispose of the annoying little wasps.

Plus, a baleflamer is good way to thin out tarpits you don't want to fight and to rack up blood tithe.

Don't forget - just because a lot of the blood tithe results aren't applicable to a hunting pack, don't ignore it, because some are.

Adamantium will is a nice one,
Rage/Furious Charge you already have
Feel No Pain - irrelevant for a vehicle army
+1 attack is very nasty when the attacks are almost invariably S10 AP2
Summoning some bloodletters to sieze an objective.....feels wrong but Is tactically a great move.

Summoning extra troops is a great feature. Kinda why I've gone off the idea of blood slaughterers, cos they don't have BFTBG
