Subject: What kind of proxys, if any do people /tournaments allow?

I'm asking for a few reasons:
I like swooping hawks but like the scourge model better(plus its cheaper)
Want to run a wold lord from one of my TWC
Considering using termies from GK to be draigo/librarian
My group is pretty chill about it but what are other peoples opinions? Right now I'm proxying tau firewarriors and kroot as other troops(Skitarii/kalbite warriors) because I haven't had time to build em yet

The most important thing is consistency and identifying characteristics. Swooping hawks are eldar with guns and wings. Scourges are eldar with guns and wings. both look similar, are about the same size and have distinct traits that line up.

For a casual "I want to test something out" game, I'd be cool with basically anything, as the idea is more to test out a concept once or twice, as opposed to anything. I've fielded, and seen people field, a Pog army with no issue in "test" games.
As for other games, and even tournaments, I think the ITC guys said it best with "The Rule of Cool" in that if it looks awesome and you put the work into it, it's ok. If it just looks like you don't want to buy the model or make one look like it, or one that holds the flavour but in different form, you're out of luck D:

Paint them bright instead of dark, remove the most dark elder-esk of the spikes and gak, and you should be golden.

Unfortunately most tournaments are pretty harsh about this type of thing these days. It's just too hard to tell what's going on with the new allies rules.
Best to contact the TO with some pictures to make sure.

In our local tourneys we allow no proxies bar grenades and melta bombs.

Ours allows basically everything.\
There are many models being released lately to keep up with what looks like or is the right model. People want different loadouts on new stuff and aren't always keen on magnetizing. So that Wraithknight magically now has a close combat setup because the Eldar guy doesn't feel like spending another $120.

Im pretty chilled with proxying anything in a lets test this build or whatever game but when it gets more serious I wouldn't be chilled with a guy using blood angels as proxy blood letters for instance must at least be from a similar army. wouldn't give a guy grief though if the model he is proxying for looks horrible, storm talon for a nephilim or something like that

Facts are chains that bind perception and fetter truth. For a man can remake the world if he has a dream and no facts to cloud his mind. |
