So i am modeling one of my Ghostkeels to have a female pilot outside of the cockpit (kinda in a pose where shes getting out and holding the helmet up). I mentioned this to a friend and he asked if she was suppose to be Shadowsun. Of course it wasnt, but it got me thinking. How would i keep Shadowsun's method of attack intact and give her a Ghostkeel suit as well as make her cost appropriately?
Spoiler:
Commander Shadowsun with XV95-2 Ghostkeel Battlesuit --- 260pts Commander Shadowsun has always worn her experimental XV22 Stealth Suit in hundreds of battles. However, despite it being more powerful than a regular XV25 Stealth Suit, its glaring weakpoint is its fragility and low rate of fire. Once the XV95 Ghostkeels started being deployed, Shadowsun got intrigued by their performance. She quickly decided to shed her XV22 suit and claim an XV95 as her own, with a few modifications of course.
Commander Shadowsun is an HQ choice in the Tau Empire, and cannot be taken in conjunction with her XV22 counterpart.
Statline: Shadowsun: Unit Type: Jetpack Monstrous Creature (Character) (Unique) ------WS:4 BS:5 S:6 T:5 W:5 I:4 A:4 LD:10 Sv:3+ MV5 Stealth Drone: Unit Type: Jetpack Infantry (Drone) ------WS:2 BS:2 S:3 T:5 W:1 I:4 A:1 LD:7 Sv:4+ Command-link Drone v2: Unit Type: Jetpack Infantry (Drone) ------WS:2 BS:2 S:3 T:5 W:1 I:4 A:1 LD:7 Sv:4+ Unit Composition: Commander Shadowsun w/ XV95-2, one MV5 Stealth Drone, and one Command-link Drone v2.
Wargear: -XV95-2 Ghostkeel Battlesuit -Holophoton Countermeasures -Ghostkeel Electrowarfare Suite -Twin-Linked Fusion Blaster -Modified Fusion Collider -Shield Generator -Advanced Targeting Systems
Warlord Trait: -A Ghost Who Walks Among Us (Pg 32)
Special Rules: -Among the Ghosts -Independent Character -Supporting Fire -Fire Team -Stealth
MV5 Stealth Drone: -Stealth Field: All models in a unit with one or more Stealth Drones receive the Stealth special rule (including the Drone). Any models that already have Stealth receives the Shrouded special rule. Models that have both receive no benefit.
Command-Link Drone v2: -Command-Link: One unit within 12" of the Command-Link Drone during the Shooting Phase may be nominated to reroll any To Hit rolls of 1. If Coordinated Fire is being used by the chosen unit, then only models within 6" of the original unit may reroll To Hits of 1.
XV95-2 Ghostkeel Battle Suit: -This modified Ghostkeel Battlesuit confers the usual rules of any XV95, but in addition it comes with an advanced version of Target Locks. Shadowsun may split her attacks from her unit entirely and even fire at two different units. The Thrustors have been redesigned as well, and any Jet Pack movement in the Assault phase may be rerolled as a result.
Modified Fusion Collider: -The Fusion Collider normally fires a blast, however Shadowsun's precision with a fusion blaster is unrivaled. After modifying the Fusion Collider, she is able to fire it as a Heavy 3 weapon instead of a Blast 1. The modification comes at a cost, however. If she rolls a cumulative To Hit rolls of 1 of four times throughout the game, after any rerolls, the gun explodes from overheat and causes an autowound with no armor or cover save allowed. If it explodes, the gun is unusable for the rest of the game.
Among the Ghosts: -Shadowsun is allowed to join a squad of Ghostkeels both upon deployment and during the game, despite normally not being allowed to. She may not, however, join any other Monsterous Creature. If she joins a squad of Ghostkeels that unit immediately benefits from Fire Team despite whether or not the model requirement is met.
I changed the Fusion Collider because tbh the only reason its trash is because of the blast profile it has. Small blasts are insanely weak unless theyre dirt cheap. I didnt want to give her Gets Hot in exchange for multi-shots, but at the same time just simply changing the profile felt cheap. Needed some risk to it. Admittedly shes not all that different other than Ghostkeel rules slapped in, but im mainly concerned with the price. I found out the hard way when i was trying to make a GMC suit about 7 months ago that i am terrible with pricing things properly lol (to put that simply, it was slightly weaker than the Ta'unar we have now and was 1000pts, the only noticeable difference was double IWNDlol)

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.
14000pts Big 'n Bad Orkz
6000pts Admech/Knights
7500pts Necron Goldboys
A few things: I'd add in some kind of clarification about whether she can join other non-MC squads (like Crisis/Stealth). That's a big sticking point with O'Vesa, for example.
My gut feeling says that 260pts is a little bit too much, though that does include a 50pt shield generator and a 20pt drone, so maybe it's not.
ICs that are MCs are not denied joining normal units, thats been a thing for awhile now. The restriction is upon joining a unit there cannot be any MCs currently in the unit, it says nothing about the IC being an MC (which would remove any and all point to being an IC to begin with) or being pushed out once the unit contains an MC.
And thats why im on the fence about the price. It includes 75pts of stuff (80 if you count the suit-bound Targetlocks, which are basically her normal splitfire rules without the "one gun must fire with the unit" part)

The statline modification for being in a Ghostkeel is +3 wounds, so Shadowsun with her Commander statline (3 wounds base, any other commander gets +1 for Crisis) would get 6 wounds in one.
I guess the most blunt way of adapting Shadowsun to a Ghostkeel would be to give it dual fusion colliders, a 5+ invul, and... The option of two Bodyguards in Ghostkeels and to take her command and control drone... As that'd most closely mirror her usual setup. As I say though, most blunt.

Nope. A Heavy 3 Fusion Blaster is just fine. All you did was fix the horrid fusion collider so it doesn't absolutely suck. You don't need to fix something and then have it maybe blow up, especially for 260 points.
Thought about making her 6 wounds since she has +2 from the normal Stealth Suit, but 6 wounds is a bit nuts imo. Barring random S10 landing on her or an ID gun, not much would threaten her.
Duo fusion colliders might be interesting, though i might just make it Heavy 2 and remove the explody part. Or, keep it at Heavy 3 and apply the usual Gets Hot (since now that i think about it, the weapon exploding and being useless from then on sounds more like an Ork thing than Tau). I mean, Gets Hot is all over Tau gear - we dont fear it like Marines do because of high armor and multiwound models. Tbh i mainly just kept the fusion blaster because i didnt wanna model a unique ghostkeel, since very few people would ever let me run this rofl

I'd drop the ability to join Ghostkeel units - with the Optimized Stealth Cadre out there, it's just a little too scary for me to sign off on. And Independent Character Monstrous Creatures just make for all kinds of fun rules questions.
As a replacement, I'd allow her to take 0-2 Ghostkeels (and attendant drones) as part of her unit. Give them Sworn Protector to mitigate the 4+ LoS and represent your opponent not knowing which 'keel is her (if any are!)
