Situation -

One team has 2 tau players and another army. Everyone is considered allies of convenience regardless of actual allies matrix.

Each team will play the game turns as normal and are effectively being counted as 1 player.

based on the BRB and the Tau Codex,

Could 1 tau players marker lights be used by the other Tau player on that team?

The BRB says (paraphrasing) that you treat AOC as enemies that you don't effectively attack via shooting, melee or psychic powers.
- can't move within 1"
- can't benefit from WL trait
- can't join IC
- are not counted as friendly for the targeting of psychic powers, abilities etc.
- cannot repair vehicles
- cannot use reserve modifiers
- are affected by attacks, special rules or abilities used by AOC that affect enemy units within range or AOE.

I say yes because codex says (paraphrasing) that marker lights can be used by any units that are from the tau codex.

Thoughts?

PS - I'm the 3rd wheel Necrons and it would be great if they could coordinate long range shooting and I would focus on melee.

I think being allies of conv I wouldn't allow sharing lights just to keep the game fair and level. Obviously there is no strict rule set for this type of game and referencing any BRB doesn't really matter as it's a custom game scenario with house rules. I just think you shouldn't be able to interact at all with your partner other than fighting along side one another. Just my 2 cents

I think the big mistake is treating them all as one army (from the reference of all from one player), but changing the Detachment Ally status.

Either allow them to be one Battle Brother army, or 2 AoC armies. This will ease confusion.

However, if you were playing Tau v Tau, would you be able use his Markerlights (assuming you could shoot your own guys)?

But there are no actual rules to define this situation. If Farsight was AoC to the Tau Empire, we could use that as a reference point, but sadly, it is not so.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?
