Ancient Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought

I... actually don't know. Help?

Might be in the forum, please move it if that's the case.

I'm making a homebrew SM chapter, which is heavily based on Space Wolves, down to their equipment and playstyle - IE, they are exactly like Space Wolves except for the name, colour scheme and organisation. Here's the dilemma: How can I explain them being just like Space Wolves? How do I explain their similar heraldry?

And also, I want to write a piece of fluff on a battle during which the entire chapter except for one or two smaller squads are destroyed. Who could they fight against? Also, I want to have an allied detachment with Grav Bikers, how do I fit this in?

Thanks!

Short answer: You don't need to explain anything. There's tons of chapters that use similar heraldry, similar combat tactics, etc. Some share color schemes as well. You're more than allowed to do what you want to do. Just when you play, let your opponent know, that your chapter functions as Space Wolves, they're just a different chapter. You don't really have to justify anything more than that. You're free to make up any background or any characters you want.

The great thing about a homebrew chapter is you can sample all the chapters and their tactics until you find one that you really like. I have my own chapter as well, and sometimes I play a bike list as Ravenwing or White Scars one day...and then as Ultramarines the next day. Just be sure you don't change it up in the middle of the game.

So yea, feel free to cut loose and let the creative juices flow Brother.

Happy Gaming.
