Are they aerials sticking out from them?

Have you considered using fishing string instead? Or do they normally look like that?

Other than that they look pretty cool dude.

I tried fishing line and tooth brush bristles before moving to paint bush bristles. The paint brush bristles stick out the best I think and the contrast gives the bases a little more depth. But, I'm open to any other suggestions.

Fishing line might work for the aerials, they look a bit thick at the moment, however you could try painting them grey rather than black, that would make them look thinner.
