NaNoWriMo = National Novel Writing Month

http://nanowrimo.org/

Just found out about this.

I love challenges like this sometimes... mostly when it involves hobby work... like Paradigm's 'contest' type threads... or like the Independent Characters Hobby Challenge.

I think I'm going to give it a shot.

Anyone else gonna give it a go?

Hello there

I write more poetry than I do prose, but I'm doing one piece a day for the duration of the month. There's a lot of support around for writers at my uni, and its nice seeing everybody give it a go

Why must I always choose beween certain death and probable death.

I'm attempting this year to finish the piece I started last year. I doubt it'll actually come out to 50,000 words (I only made 40 some thousand last year) but that's what I'm shooting for anyway

Probably work

I keep wanting to do this. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have the time to do this, again, unless code counts. I'd have it in a couple weeks then at that rate.

Oh well, one of these days I'll write the Great American Novel.

My wife is doing it, so I'll be getting lots of time to play with my toys this month while she's hunched over her computer.

Well....

Back when I was in 8th grade, I participated in NANOWRIMO. I wrote a 27 page novel called The End Of The USA. The plot was every storm forming in the Atlantic hitting the USA. I was planning to do a full season, but 27 pages in, there were only two storms that had formed. It ended with the last storm rapidly dissipating (in 30 minutes). I concluded that I would not help people prepare for hurricanes.

As for what happened post-novel...I have not figured that out yet.

I'm famous!

Sadly I have absolutely no way to enter this year, tons of stuff to do for uni. I did complete a round and them some about 4 years ago, about 75k words in the month. I've since gone back and edited that one (took about twice as long to edit as it did to write) and it's probably close to publishable now, but I've not had time to write it. I also wrote a sequel (about 90k words) and half another (just past half way, about 60k words) but the former needs editing and the latter needs finishing and I have time to do neither!

Last year I tried for a 40k piece, got about 20,000 words in, I was really enjoying it and it was going down very well in Dakka Fiction and then I suffered a keyboard failure after about 10 days that took ages to get fixed and thus it got added to the ever-growing pile of 'unfinished tales' I need to get back to that at some point as well, but I can't see myself having time to write anything meaningful at uni so it'll be at least 3 years before I can.

Best of luck to everyone participating this year! I would go with Crystal Maze's suggestion and do a poem a day, but I can't force poetry like that; I can have weeks of nothing and then write half a dozen in a night.

I'm giving it a go, though I'm terrible at writing longer stories (most of my novellas end up around 21k words.)

Still, it's worth a shot. I'm at 2,300 words right now.

Feel you on the Uni stuff. I'm just going to pretend that my term paper is a novel.

I'm really enjoying writing this year. Apparently I'm very motivated by the fear of falling behind schedule. Last year I tried the do 1,666 words a day, and just shrugged it off when I missed a day thinking oh, I'll just make it up tomorrow. This year, I found a calendar that had the total I should be at for each day. And knowing that if I miss a day, I'm going to be sitting there lamenting that I didn't hit 5000 words on time is far scarier than not hitting my old daily tallies.

Right now the number to be at is 5,000. I'm at 6,580, just a hundred shy of the day 4 total. I'm trying to keep a day ahead in case of emergencies occurring.
