Hey guys I need some help please and thank you.

Now remember I do not care if I ever win a game cause as I get older my play time is well..... monthly at best. So I collect for the point of collecting and the look of some models. BUT!! I do play a game here and there so I do need... kinda a playable army.

I like well khorne and ogres and have alot of both in fantasy and am trying to step away from that style. So no space marines or their counterparts.

Now I need a army suggestion the ones that look good are the imperal guard/Necron/Tyranid. Which one has the best... board presence? I think it is called like looks good just set up in the house and can make a board based around. I also do not want to say go and play my 1 game a month and find out hey look everyone plays them :(.

I like the idea of having quite a few troops with a few elite that can duel it out with the best and hang around. Also I like the idea of how necron worked in dark crusade the PC game slow and murderious no hurry but we will get to you. Do they still play like that? I have been out of 40k well since forever only collected like 20 minis in the last 10 years so.... not sure where to even start.

I need to go to work every day.
Millions of people on welfare depend on me.

What's left of Cadia

I would recommend necrons then. Their infantry is horrifically durable (especially in a Decurion detachment) and they still do the slow and murderous quite well (although they can also be somewhat speedy now). You can do a fair number of troops with them as well. It also helps that out of the 3 you mentioned Necrons currently have the strongest book. All of them are perfectly playable though, in any case I would say Necrons.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Well, first off, keep in mind that Necrons are one of the current 'top tier' power armies, hence they're rather popular right now... They're not quite Eldar/Vanilla Marine/Tau levels of popular, but especially in their Decurion formation, they earn you very few friends. Think of them as being the 40k equivalent of the 7th ed Vampire Counts "Dickenhof Guard" style army.

On the other hand, both Guard & Tyranids are currently among the bottom feeders in the game in terms of raw power, with Tyranids being the better of the two *IF* you play the 5x Flyrant list 'o doom.

Guard tend to be looked upon as being the second most fun/rewarding army in the game next to Orks. It's basically THE underdog army in both the background and game itself, as the individuals that make-up your force are just basic human dudes in a galaxy of insane horrors.
They look and feel very similar to The Empire in Fantasy. Individually their units suck. But when massed together and boosted by their officers & other specialists such as Commissars/Priests, they can become much scarier. (still not scary though compared to the 'Big 4' of Eldar/Vanilla Marines/Necrons/Tau)

Tyranids are troubled as being the assault army that can't get into assaults, AND, being a psyker heavy army that has the worst psykers of the psyker heavy armies.

Still, both 'Nids & Guard are rumored to be likely getting new codices in the new year, so now could easily be a great time to start on collecting them! (unlike Chaos currently, who are looking like they've been 100% forgotten - especially the poor Chaos Marines...)
