Curious about techmarines (for space marine chapters) and techpriests (for imperial guard damn it) with a retinue of servo-arm servitors...

Lets say if you have a lone vanilla techmarine (setting aside chapters) with a servo-harness than a d6 roll of 4+ succeeds for the repair weapon or restore hull point.

If you add in 2 servitors then a d6 roll of 2+ succeeds.

What if you add in a 3rd servitor? would the extra bonus make all rolls succeed? was under the impression from the BRB that natural ones were an automatic failure so you can't bump a 1 up to a success roll total. There's no reroll for BotO.

Caught drift of another player interpreting the rules that his rolls of 1's would work anyways.

Wasn't happening at my table so i just listened in on the local rules lawyers on retainer and speed dial, duke out but left before it was over hehe.

Clan Raukaan and Iron Hands Chapter tactics cannot be used to make natural 1's successful either i'd reckon...

There is no universal rule that a roll of a one is always a failure.

There is no blanket "1's always fail" rule - it would particularly suck for Characteristic Tests (where a 6 is an automatic fail and a 1 is an automatic pass).

There is a rule that applies to Armour, Cover and Invulnerable saves only (p38, Maximum Save). So unless the rule states a 1 fails (BotO doesn't have such a restriction), then it's possible to automatically pass the dice roll.

Not really game-breaking on the BotO, but particularly frustrating on Feel No Pain (which "isn't a save" and so the above mentioned rule doesn't apply to it).

so technically he was right? a techmarine with servo-harness and 3x servitors will automatically be successful (doesn't have to roll unless some special opposing ability forces a roll with a penalty).

He's not "technically" right. He is right.

Easy to get around. Kill the servitors. It's a valid but weak and exploitable tactic
