Hello all,
I was just wondering whether or not it is tournament legal to use weapons that are not boltguns on the Space Marines. e.g. giving the Marine an M4A4 Assault Rifle rather than a boltgun.
Would this 'counts as' bolt gun or would this be more of an 'auto gun'

What you are describing is the concept of 'What You See is What You Get' and how it relates to a specific tournament.
Only the Tournament Organizers themselves will be capable of providing you with the valid answer....

The concept of 'What You See is What you Get' is a little unusual, some editions have it enshrined within written Rules while other editions have no mention of it at all. This has rendered it more of a curtsy we do for our opponents, so they can more easily recognize what is what. Most tournaments will also have some sort of independent 'What You See is What you Get' requirements, hence why you will need to talk to them directly concerning their own Rules on this matter. Also keep in mind that some players will also require 'What You See is What You Get' to be followed before they will even game with you, so discuss it with your opponents as well.

Just keep in mind, if the Datasheet has a Boltgun listed under War-gear then it will still have a Boltgun no matter what it looks like it is carrying.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

I feel that an M4 would look odd in a marine's hands. A bolter looks better. But to answer your question it would depend on the TO of the tournament. Some of them are a big more lax when it comes to things like that. Others are strict WYSIWYG

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

From a casual point of view, so long as all the bolters are replaced with the M4 its fairly obvious. Its not like SM have an option for autoguns...

As long as its clear what the weapon is(as far as what it represents) most TOs wont care, but you will have to check with the TO for each different tournament.

Blood for the bloo... wait no, I meant for Sanguinius!

Pretty sure the M4A4 is not a real weapon, a quick google tells me it has something to do with Counter Strike...

I really wouldn't care, as long as you were using it as a proxy for a boltgun.
