Hey guys,

Being the Fiction Section, obviously there's a lot of short stories and other such fiction writing. My question is:

What is the best way to be uploading fiction?

Because I'm uploading bits of my short story as a write it using the spoiler tool, but I always find big paragraphs and the like difficult to read when they're posted in this format and would much rather upload files because for me, that intuitively seems to be the better way to do it even though it's not the convention on this forum. Just curious to know what peoples' thoughts are on the matter.

Cheers Guys

That only covers creating articles, not posting threads in DF.

Personally, I have the first chapter or section in the opening post--I don't tend to make a thread until I've written something worth posting--and simply add subsequent chapters in their own posts as and when, surrounded by Quote tags to make the actual story bit stand out from regular posts.

Others might prefer to 'reserve' a number of posts after their opening post for adding content to, by making posts just saying "Reserved for further chapters" or something similar. Some may just posts chunks of prose as regular posts whenever they feel like it.

Really, there's no set standard for doing it. Try out a few methods and see what works best for you and your readers.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I'm certainly not saying you have to read it, but have a look at how I handled multiple (at this point, infinitely increasing) entries in the 183rd topic.
Direct linking index, and story per post.

Remember you can always "filter by poster" in a topic.

[ Mordian 183rd ] - an ongoing Imperial Guard story with crayon drawings!
[ "I can't believe it's not Dakka!" ] - a buttery painting and crafting blog

I had no idea about conventions or anything when I started uploading Smirking. Just figured it out as I went along. It probably looks messy but then ork fiction should.
I could go back and 're-edit the OP with spoiler chapters but I'm not too bothered. They have big titles, they're easy enough to find in the thread.

I have appreciated other people organising their threads for ease of finding content, maybe I'll do it in the future.
