Has anyone made a community ruleset that tries to fix the various balance issues surrounding 40k? Outside things like ITC. Like going over each individual codex and sorting out "useless" units? *malceptor* cough.

That would be a ludicrous amount of work for very little reward, since most people would still play by the actual rules and each time GW releases a new unit you would have to thoroughly test it.

This is why people make house rules to fix things enough people agree are a problem, for example tactical objectives, most people I know of go with the house rule of if you draw a card that was impossible from the start of the game redraw, it makes the games a lot more fun.

Some people make house rules to balance things out like making D weapons count as Str 10 instead of using them as D weapons.

But going through and re-balancing the whole game would be very difficult without making it a completely different game.

Many, many, many people. About seventeen times per edition.

My favourite (not that anyone ever plays it) is OnePage40k.

I really enjoyed Zaghammer myself. If people would play that, and do a few changes like removing true line of sight and random warlord traits etc, it would be enough to get me playing again.

But yeah, approximately nine million alternative 40ks exist, and as far as I can tell none of them are popular.

Most people either stick doggedly to RAW, play with casual houserules with a small group, or went and played non-GW games and never looked back. Kind of hard to after seeing what else is out there.

the sad thing is that if someone spent an afternoon going over the codicii (codexes?) they would have probably spent more time in terms of balance than GW did with them.
