Very first attempt at ANYTHING Infinity since it's picking up steam at my local club. May as well jump in while everyone else is just learning as well. Haven't been over the full rules so have only the bare basics regarding army building but don't know for instance why a TAG might be a better choice than my Infantry list that I put together here. I really want to know if the Chimera and Daktari are usable because the anime nerd in me wants the animal hybrids. If they're utter dookie, I will have to find a new race. I come from 40k so don't have experience with the finer points of individual movement, but I have tried to place the 'specialists' in the group with the grunts to up their orders they can use per turn if they NEED to get their job done. I think that's how it works, right? What am I missing my focus on, what should I include, what do the Nomads have that I'm not taking advantage of? Also hope the format is fine. Just pressed a button on Infinity and copied what it told me to.

First off, welcome to Infinity! It's a great system that has a few more subtleties than many other wargames do, but jumping in shouldn't be a problem.
As a general tip for list building, it's better to have 1 group with 9-10 orders and another with only a few than it is to split them evenly. Some people like to divide their lists into an assault group and a defense group, while others prefer to mix and match. Play a couple of test games first to see how you tend to spend your orders, and go from there.
An aspect of the game that I think you'll be glad to hear is that there are no 'bad' units. If you like how something plays on the field or are even solely interested in its aesthetics, you can usually find a way to include it in your list. Chimeras can be absolutely brutal if you maneuver them properly, and Daktaris are solid choices to begin with. To take full advantage of its doctor skill, you should take 2 Zondbots that will greatly extend your coverage.

I am new to the game also so you can take what I say as a rookie statement.

I would get some MSV2 in the list to help with camo.
My list above takes 2 to help with that. I will be playing against USA and Combined Army the most.

I know USA brings in a lot of close combat nasty camo.

I need to look at the Chimera. looks interesting.

I can't find what makes the Zondbots do things. I'm searching through but can't find the rules for G: Servant. Like CH is the Camo section, G is the Ghost section, right? But where is the subsection for Servant?

MSV2 is MultiSpetral Visor Lvl 2, right? Is it worth dropping a couple of the Hellcats with Spitfires for? The 24" range is really the only reason I'm taking those as a balance against the plenty of short range units. Deploying longer range support roles AFTER the game starts is nice and all, but I'm not committed to it. I can easily grab a couple more Mobile Brigade and then spend more points on MSV2 units to hunt camo users.

Zondbots will assit the doctor. She can hide and send the zondbots out into the open to do your doctoring.
Keep her safe and let the zondbots do the hard work.

Kinda like Palbots for engineers in Pan O.

The Grenzer has a MSV 1 so he is not bad.
take a look at an intruder sniper.

You are kinda light on the hacking. Nomads are the best in the game at it and you only have a grunt doing the work.
Your Mobile Brigada are vulnerable to hacking and may get starved for orders. You only have 6 orders between two MB.

The post up top suggested you go 9-10 orders in group 1 and whatever in group two. From what I have seen that is probably a good idea.

It is important for me to state: I am a rookie too!

Important to note that Nomad Tags are cheap. Iguana and Geckos are really cheap on points compared to others.
damn Geckos are 52+ points and you can take 2. Models look sweet!

I get what Zonbots do, but not where the specific rule (G: Servant) is in the books.

Yeah, getting a better handle on these things day by day, so the Moiras are actually really catching my eye. The OOD looks friggin powerful, plus the ARM 3. Seems like they're an awesome unit, and the Healer is separate. I'm prolly going to drop the Hellcats for them. The Reverend group has an awesome Hacking model that I want to include. I've just started looking at the Hacking section of the rules but I'm liking it so far

TAGs are prolly going to wait a long time just so I can stretch the starter set for as long as possible. That Iguana though... being able to eject the pilot looks great. Being able to control an enemy TAG via hacking means I'm not overly worried about them as long as I build up some good Hackers with Fastpandas in support. Or Zondbots if that's an option.

The Intruder sniper looks really good, but between the points cost and that it's not the guy in the Starter set, I think that's going to be a bit later.

Toying around with a bit more of an elite list, I came up with another list to build towards. More of a specialized playstyle instead of a wide spread of guns. Every unit has a role that only kinda overlaps with others. Am I thinking these units work that way? Focusing more on defense via equipment more than in number of bodies.

List looks better! Hacker is much stronger! I think if you run one squad you need to take 10 orders min. You could put a shotgun on the mobile brigada and use the rest for a 10th guy or dronebot. Losing your multi rifle won't be a big deal with all your heavy weapons listed.
The grezerger model in starters set can pass or intruder in my opinion. Look similar anyway.

That list will give you a pretty good chance to control much of the gametable, thanks to the four Crazy Koalas. And with the smoke grenades of the Jaguar you'll be able to do that nasty smoke + MSV2 trick On the other hand you'll be able to block the opponent's MSVs thanks to White Noise provided by the HDplus
The Sin Eater will be pretty useful for AROs and your opponent will spend some orders more than he wants to ged rid of him.

An alternative would be this list:

This list is a little bit more offensive.
