So alot of people seem to be crazy about this KDK formation so I'm just curious how many units of flesh hounds to run with it? I'm considering trying it with one unit of 10

Why one unit of 10, when you could use 2 units of 5?

There are almost no downsides, and many upsides, to running multiple small units of Fearless models as opposed to larger units.

Multiple Small Units of 5 Hounds and MAX take 5 Bikers per squad. 1 Champ Combi-Melta + Axe of Khorne then 2 Melta Guns. Last 2 models are just there to soak up wounds to keep your melta models alive.

It's cheap, fast and gives you an opportunity to blow stuff up.

I usually take units of 5 hounds and units of either 3 bikers w/ 2 melta (or plasma) or units of 5 with powerfist champ and 2 melta (or plas).

One notable exception is if I take a grimoire in a daemon detachment or Be'Lakor in a detachment. In both of those cases it is usually worthwhile to take 1 large unit of 15-20 hounds to use the grimoire on or to put invisibility on. This unit is huge for winning games as they can give a huge deal of board control and sweep up entire board corners with a single good round of charges and combat resolution.

IMO hounds are the best khorne unit in the game, luckily I have amassed ~50 of them for cheap on ebay over the years. Some day I will rebase them

There are also a few tricks you can pull to further improve and buff hound units. Most of them are not really worthwhile in games less than 2000 pts though.

Agreed. Because of the way Daemonkin work, in a pure daemonkin army take two small units not one large one.

Daemonkin work in many small units, because their army special rules buff the entire army regardless of how many separate units are in it, whilst the points to generate blood tithe work off units lost/killed regardless of how big the units were.

In a maelstrom of war game, many small, fast units can score/contest many objectives at once (important because you don't have objective secured in a gorepack) and can just gang up on bigger threats.

I'm actually considering an army built purely of Gorepacks...
