No. You can never assault after deepstrike unless a special rule explicitly allows it.

VOD uses the rules for deepstrike so any rules that restrict things based on deepstrike pop in as well.

Indeed. Deep Strike Rules prevent it as part of their arriving rules. This doesn't even consider the fact that most Deep Strikes are from Reserves, either!
