Company Commander Frerick didn’t like the feel of this mission, the Inquisitor didn’t even introduce himself. He came into the town of Trabalia and demanded the PDF be assembled to scout the Slitro Forest and find whatever he was looking for. The locals were saying that daemons roamed the Forest these days but nothing had been confirmed. The Inquisitors friend with the long rifle and million yard stare put the commander on even further edge.

Fredrick looked over his forces and positioning. To his left were two chimeras loaded with veterans of the PDF. Each had strapped melta bombs to themselves before hoping in the vehicles for the trip. Three autocannons lined the ridge to his far left, the newest members of the PDF he prayed they would hold. That is why he placed Bravo Platoon Command in front of their hill with their flamer. Whatever came their way he hoped the Veterans would hold them off. To his far right the Battle Tank of Ole Jack sat idle waiting, with his its battle cannon ready to fire. His brother Demolisher Tank was positioned in front of the Aegis. Another Chimera with a squad of To his direct left, tucked in behind the Aegis the long rifle man stood looking over the lush green landscape and ruined half town laid out before them. Behind the line and to his direct right were the combined infantry squads of Alpha and Bravo. Sargent Hemingway inspected his troops, ensuring the two missile launchers were primed and ready. Further along the line another squad of autocannon sat ready. Ivan Germanous went amongst the troops, blessing them and providing the Emperor’s protection while Commissar Doyle scowled in the corner, flexing his bonic legs, ensuring the gravity of Makara wasn’t going to cause issues on this mission. In his own Company Command Williard Smith was checking his telescope and communicating with the field artillery back at the city, getting coordinates ready if needed. Wilhelm Katczinsky adjusted the scope on his Lascannon, the heavy gunner had a knack for delivering the heavy punch when needed. The Inquisitor and his pet monkey stood in the middle of the squads waiting and checking whatever the instrument on his wrist was saying.

Right before dawn is when the Rifle Man first spotted the blood red Daemons. Sprinting across the Emperor’s land Fredrick took in what was before him. Racing to the front were three packs of dogs, each group had eight of the blood fiends. Front middle and right they came. The left of the field three giant beasts came crashing through, ridden by daemons. In the middle another beast came only the daemon riding it looked bigger and stronger than its friends. A Chaos marine riding yet another beast led a pack of six gibbering sacks of flesh with multiple arms and legs. Lugging behind the daemons Fredrick could make out two squads of cultists. Fredrick could only hope the high ground and mass fire power could stop Chaos from reaching his lines, if they got amongst his men even he doubted the Inquisition could stop them.

The Inquisitor channeled the warp and put blessing on the autocannons, helping them bend bullets around cover. Fredrick ordered his other autocannon team to pick their shots and ensure no cover was given. Fredrick looked over to Williard and gave him the nod to commence, and waited for the artillery to crash down amongst the mutants Only Williard was far off the mark, throwing dirt and rocks flying into the air. Katcznisky let the Lascannon rip across the field, the smell of burnt air filled his nostrils. Fredrick saw the beam fly up and to the left of the Chaos Marine. Ole Jack let loose with the mighty battle cannon sending smoke back across the lines. Only Ole Jack could do no better than Williard. Ole Jacks battery mate down the line backed up and let loose with the mighty demolisher cannon taking down a few dogs in the middle. Both autocannons squads ripped apart more dogs in the middle of the field. All Chimeras backed away from the dogs rushing towards them. The Rifleman fumbled through his ammo pouch and found what he was looking for and sent one built flying down range. Smashing a beast and its rider to the ground, a small cheer went up as it did not get up.

Thankfully for Fredrick and his PDF force the Daemons lacked all ranged weapons and rushed up the field to come into grips with the Imperials.

The Inquisitor, not knowing his own strength of the Warp cast more powers only to have the Warp backlash and wound him. Knowing he only had a few more moments before his forces were locked into close combat, he ordered his men to ensure no cover was given again only Alenzo did not hear the command so he and his squad failed Fredrick. All three chimeras pushed forward to block the way of the Daemons. Williard again radioed back to the field artillery miles away and missed wide, taking down more of the ruins. Perhaps the rain was playing issues with him as he remembered his crash years ago in the same weather. Ole Jack’s battle cannon went off its mark again as well, but even through the rattling of the machine the hull gunner hit true with his lascannon. Knocking a dog through the wall of a crumbling building. The Demolisher cannon took out more dogs in the middle, while the side autocannon teams turned their fire to the side groups of dogs. More shots found their mark than before and Alenzo’s team made up for missing their order. With the middle pack of dogs down to two members a Veterans squad threw out a demolitions charge and wiped them out. The other Veterans squad did the same on the left and took down two more dogs. Chimeras and missle launcheradded volume to the fire and attempted to take down more dogs, sadly many took the shots and did not die. The Rifleman again took down a beast and its rider. The company command squad let look with the flamer and charge into the dogs, hoping to buy time for the autogunners. Fredrick watched in horror as they squad was ripped to shreds before they could strike back.

The Daemon horde broke is stride and made its plan clear. First Fredrick watched the air by the aegis line shimmer for a minute only for something to happen and suddenly a squad of Bloodletters appeared in the far corner of the field. Again the air shimmered and another squad of Bloodletters materialized from the Warp directly in front of the Aegis and Inquisitor. Only it seemed the Inquisitor knew they were coming and had the combined squads ready for the ploy. Lasguns, bolters and missles flew into the packed squad of Bloodletters, As soon as they had appeared they were gone. The Chaos marine split from his pack of mutants and charged into the Demolisher, his powerfist punching through the armor and pulling the crew out in a bloody pulp. The mutant spawn rushed the Veteran chimera and forced the troops to disembark out the back. The bloodletter herald charged into the chimera to Fredricks right and dumped the flamer squad onto the ground. One pack of dogs to the left rushed past the Chimera and chewed through the Autocannon squad, even though a few went down to overwatching fire. The other squad of dogs rushed Ole Jack’s Leman Russ and wrecked it. The cultists stayed in the back, securing vital routes and even the true chaos lord came in with his Rhino and Chosen. Knowing he had the field, the Chaos Spacemarine shouted a challenge out to the Inquisitor “Best me and we will leave the field you puppet of the Emperor!”

Fredrick knew this battle was lost but kept the fire going, Williard and Wilhelm both missed their marks again. He would have to run more drills if they survived this. The Rifleman fired and took down the last beast and rider on the left. The dumped out squads fired all they could into the hounds surrounding them, meltaguns, lasguns and bolter fire taking a few down. Fredrick knew it wasn’t going to be enough, they would soon be slaughtered to the man if the Inquisitor didn’t do something. He only saw the flash of the man vault himself over the Aegis and charge into the fallen Marine. Both tore at each other, the Marine using his power fist to rip at the Inquisitor and the Inquisitor using his daemon hammer to crush him. As they traded blows the Chaos Lord in the Rhino was gifted by Khorne and became a Daemon Prince.

At this point Fredrick knew the battle was lost, though the mounted Chaos Marine fell to the Inquisitor, the Inquisitor himself was slain. Both his veteran squads were slain and the dogs were in his Aegis line, chewing on the other autocannon squad. He ordered a general retreat across the line, Chaos would take the field, the forest and the Inquisitor.

Thoughts/MVPs/Losers
Spoiler:
So this was a friendly Thursday game against a friend, so even though I ended up getting wiped by turn 4 or so I still had fun. Also he said if my inquisitor could best the mounted marine then they would pull back the Daemons, kind of fluffy.

MVPs:
Whole Khorne army, likely the dogs. They get into the lines so fast. Also the spawn are tough as heck, cant tap them out.
Vindicare Assasin took out all the bloodcrushers.
Cotaez is fun to play with.

Least:
Scatter dice, my large blasts couldnt hit crap all game.
The normally sure handed lascannon didnt hit either.
Waste of points on priest and commissar, they never were used and Cotaez was in that unit.
Never firing my monkey(eagle), we assumed he would throw D6 poop.

Nice batrep Rob. Shame the PDF was defeated

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum
