I recently picked up a new box of SM tactical squad. The box game with larger 32(?)mm bases, a little bit larger then the norm. Was curious, is the larger base size the new norm for marines? Should I go about rebasing all my marines or are the smaller ones still good? Can I mix and match?

The 32mms are the norm now but GW has said that the previous bases are fine to use.

I think it was something to do with other companies that led to changing the base size.

I switched to the bigger bases for my tz daemons. It was the best decision ever. My models dont fall over anymore. I know sm doesnt have that problem as much. either way I like the bigger ones better because more room for cool basing. As far as what they SHOULD be on, as the first poster said GW told us it doesn't matter

Doesn't matter. Gw did it to pull the rug out from under a lot of the specialist base manufacturers out there.

That said, I think the 32mm bases are an excellent improvement. Makes the marines look bigger and more imposing. Now when I put a guardsman next to one the marine looks bigger, unlike before where it looked like cadians and catachans could beat the space marines up for lunch money.

Not to mention a lot more room for basing opportunities.

Well, I switched to bigger bases too.
For me it began with the AoS box set and the infantry in there being on 32 mm bases.
I've based my new Khorne Bloodletters on 32 mm bases too.

All the new marine kits I've gotten have come with the 32 mm bases.

I don't use them, and never will, as the change came about while I already had armies on 28mm bases going. It also makes the footprint of a squad of marines on the board much larger. I imagine this would suck if you wanted to get a game going where you have to smush a bunch of points onto a crowded table....which IME are some of the funnest games you can play.

Even though 32mm seemed more common so even more options for us now and looks so much better at the same time.
