'Ere we go, den! Here be the start of my (hopefully-someday-to-be-considered-by-reputable-sorts) glorious Freebootaz army!

I haven't exactly settled on all the fluffy particulars, but they're salty space pirates crewed by the unsavory outcasts of Ork society. They're united by a flinty-eyed former Blood Axe possessed of uncanny ambition, Ad'mrull Grizwagh. I'm aiming for lots of conversions, unique personalities among the models, and I guess what amounts to a bit of perfectionism.

WAAAGH!!!

edit: Sorry for the blurry photos.

This guy's the first shoota boy I made when I started up fresh. Something about the shoota said "AK", and something about that said "beret."

I want my shoota boyz to look as though they deserve close combat prowess, so bayonets! Bayonets everywhere!

This was quite a bit of work, but I'm fairly proud of the result. I was especially enamored of the first Gears of War game, and when I saw some other modellers converting up some "orky lancaz," I couldn't help myself. The rippy bits are a cut-to-size orky chainsword, and the rest is plasticard.

Bionik arm WIP. Need to get some better sculpting tools for the delicate GS work I wanna pull off.

This was originally to be a rokkit boy for a shoota squad, but I've since decided to make him my first tankbusta. More embellishments will be added later to better reflect this.

First WIP shot of the nob for the shoota squad. WYSIWYG is somehow a part of my modelling habit, even though I've played in like 3 tournaments in my entire warhammering career, so I wanted the nob's shoota and powerklaw to be represented. One-handed shoota arms only exist on the old metal nobz, so I snatched a box up to use for some kitbashin'. The metal nobz are slightly (barely-baby-eency-slightly) smaller than their plastic counterparts however, so I chopped 'em all up right nice-like to look appropriately scaled.

Progress on project gunarm.

The metal shoota came with a magazine for the second barrel, but I preferred the look of the gun without it. I did agonize over the decision, debating as to whether I should favor the aesthetic or the practical function of the shoota itself. In the end I stuck some plasticard over what is shown on the box to be for cartridge ejection, but to me it more closely resembled a magazine well.

Shoota arm attached and barrels drilled out. About to assemble the bosspole.

Bosspole is a flash gitz bosspole with the glyph, and I think the Freeboota skull comes from the boyz box. The awesome trophy rack is from the old metal box.

Some lovely stuff here Lunk. I've always loved a good ork blog. I'm gonna keep an eye on this.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

@War Kitten: Thank you! I appreciate it. Hopefully an audience will encourage more regular updates.

@KINGPIN54: Thanks! Deyz da best.

@theCrowe: Indeed! I'm actually waiting on a delivery of killa kanz and deff dread bitz, as their rokkit launchaz look perfect for the job. Soon as they arrive, it's bustin' time.

I love how subtle your conversions are, dude! Especially the bionic-arm Ork. That is some awesome work! Extremely fiddly to get right, I can imagine?

Really like what you're doing, giving these guys much more flavour.

@NidLifeCrisis: Thank you. I appreciate it. That's definitely something I try to maintain in all my conversions - especially while I feel some of my greenskin brethren will sometimes take the orky convert/kitbash free-for-all a bit too far.

@Buttery Commissar: Thank you, sir. Flavor is what I aim for.

I had planned to post some pictures of updates, but I don't have as many as I would consider appropriate. Last night my left hand was scalded by some very indignant boiling water and the night before my right hand sliced open by a piece of sheet metal siding sharper than a lightsaber. Le horrible! So I'm recovering, relatively unable to model and rather uninterested in taking pictures. Updates soon!

Oh, and I'll likely turn this thread into a proppa hobbyin' blog when I'z return. Hur hur.

@War Kitten: I took yer advice an' got right onnit, boss! Youz woz right. Just a scratch an' a tickle, dat.

@KaptinBadrukk: Thanks, man.

@Paradigm: Thank you, sir! I try to do da godz proud!

@Cleatus: I appreciate it.

A big thanks to everyone for the kind words! I'll try to keep those updates coming. An' speakin' uv updates, 'ere we go!

'Ere's some uv da boyz! Dey still need proppa embellishmentz, but deyz is more or less togevver.

And some more. Got some ideas about what to do with these boyz. Stormboyz bitz and stikkbombz are calling.

Comparin' some 'eadz. The metal ones surprised me. The metal nobz have smaller bodies and limbs than their plastic counterparts, but their heads seem a bit bigger. I love the look of the old heads, so we're going to work them in somewhere.

OI! DEZ BITZ IZ SIDEWAYZ! I sometimes go back and forth with the plastic meganobz, as their poses/weight distribution/sometimes look a little strange to me - but I have faith I can make 'em look alright.

The second tankbusta! Cleaned and assembled. Like the other, he needs some fancy bitz.

WIP shot of the first warbiker. I thought these would be quick and easy, as I've never built them before. GAP FILLIN'!

Fillin' those gaps.

Gaps, gaps, gaps.

Tire gaps.

Good ol' tamiya white.

I had an idea for the rider to be leaning back with his sword, taking advantage of the momentum of his warbike like a cavalryman might with his charging steed.

I think it came together alright. Still not totally sure about the positioning, but it's too late now!

Straight enuff, I suppose.

Annuver WIP of the bionik arm. No tools yet. Making due with a needle and exacto knife. Not much due. Some due.

A shot uv da Mek Shop, where all great fings and ideaz go ter wallow in slow 'n purposeful labor! Gaha!

Stay tuned, gitz!

Gaps, gaps, gaps.
Still, I prefer filling in gaps to cleaning flash/mold lines off of models.

Keep up the good work!
