So I have been on edge with getting the new fallout. I have heard a few things here and there, especially some spoilers on the internet that I personally don't care for. I want to know if the game itself is worth 60$. From what I've seen. the graphics are beautiful, and I've heard it runs beautifully. But what about the content? The mechanics? Is this game worth buying without a second thought for people who haven't played a single fallout game, one or two of the games, or a veteran? (i've played new vegas from the steam sales, and love it, but am cautious for this one)

Unfortunately im one of "those guys" who plays the first 2 and loves them... but hates 3-4. They seem to be less RPG every time and more shooting based. In Fallout 3 for example (which i played before any other fallout game) I had killed hundreds upon hundreds of humans by the end of the campaign, untold amounts of creatures and everywhere I went I was the famous wasteland wanderer. Didn't matter if I had a non combat character, I still had to gun/beat down wave after wave of enemies every few minutes of the game. And no matter what I did I became this famous almighty person in a world that doesn't progress. In fallout 1-2 I spend a lot of time sneaking, talking and exploring my way through problems. Very rarely do I have to gun people down and often gunning people down is the riskiest way. I doubt very much that I killed hundreds of people. The games where very much a challenge. I still play them and try new play styles etc. I also found the world far more realistic with the games having real societies with farms, wells and governments/leaders. Trade was less about money and more about items. In fallout 3 people seemed to live in unorganized groups with seemingly no sense to their locations or how those communities survive. Really, it's not much of an RPG, so I would say bust in that department. If you like spoon fed story and shooting things up then it's probably worth your money, it's not a bad thing either, just down to taste. Really it comes down to what kind of games you enjoy. Honestly if you are on the fence wait 1 year then get it. By then everything there is to know about it is out and you can make a real decision based on that.

If you like the game play and general setting then you should get it.
You shouldn't be expecting anything super crazy new or better from a franchise anyway

I've played Fallout 1, 2, 3 and a bit of New Vegas.
BUY. IT. NOW.
Sincerely, someone who played all the main fallouts but never played any of the spin-offs.
Now seriously, if you liked Fallout 3, this is it. This is F3 on steroids.

This one is definitely a gun game. A lot of annihalation missions and very little RPG elements. But I am loving the game so if you like a narrative shooter, then by all means. If you expect an in depth RPG then this one missed the mark.

Came home to my good lady screaming 'Die, damn you! DIE!'
I haven't had a chance to play it - I don't have the heart to tear her away from her rampage....
She avoided playing Fallout 3 for years, convinced that it was a game of roaming through the radioactive wasteland, killing things.
I showed her that it is about a good deal more, and she tried it for herself... and roams through the radioactive wasteland, killing things.... (She has a particular save for when she has had a bad day at work.)
Going by the Bloodthirsty-Scream-O-Meter... I would say that she is enjoying herself....
The Auld Grump - at some point I will have to ask her how many times she has been killed, so far.

It's a Bethesda game, so wait 2 years for the GOTY Edition that has fixed major bugs and includes the DLC at a lower price point is always a valid strategy. Also has the bonus that the Mod community will be in full swing if you buy PC and the Mod community makes every Bethesda game 10x better.
