This is my attempt at a heresy erea death guard list.
Hopefully competitive.

So far I've had good luck with it playing ITC's modified maelstrom missions.

HQ 110points
Chaos Lord: Burning Brand of Skalanthrax, Mark of Nurgle

Troops 774points
X3
Plague Marines X6 with 2 melta guns
Plague Champion Power Fist [Combi-melta]
Rhino

Fast Attack 340points
Heldrake X2

Heavy Support 175points
Forgefiend with 2 hades autocannons

Lord of war 450points
Chaos Knight errant. Deamon of nurgle

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here is the plan for the list.

SETUP
I try and place the objectives fairly central on the board so that i can reach out and grab the ones I need with my objective secured troops.

Deployment
All three Rhinos deploy as far forward as possible and very central since they don't have the greatest mobility.

The Lord goes in one of the Rhinos, usually in which ever one I deploy in the middle so that he can reach the juiciest target with the burning brand.

The Forgefiend tries to grab high ground or where ever has the best line of sight to provide covering fire.

The Knight also deploys very aggressively to cause as much chaos as possible and pull treats away from my troops.

Heldrakes reserve.

GAME PLAN

The Rhinos sit on the middle objectives using melta shots out of the top hatch where they can.
Then mid to late game they dump out the Plague marines and try to grab objectives by themselves since they are objective secured as well.

The Plague Marines are durable enough to sit on objectives without get blasted off in a single turn, and with three melta shots in a squad plus a power fist they have a chance against anything.

The Heldrakes cause havoc in the backfield targeting anything that relies on cover saves and vector striking light vehicles or MCs.

The Forgefiends 8 strength 8 shots are not as bad people tend to think. His job is just to pick targets where he can cause the most damage and hopefully draw a little attention away from the troops.

The Knight is there mainly to absorb firepower. But of course he has a pretty devastating AP 1 blast and can stomp out threats or kill anything on the charge.

Let me know what you guys think.
I'm try to keep this a mono CSM build. I had toyed around with swapping the Knight for a Firebase support cadre, but I really like mono builds. The problem is that there is not much firepower in the CSM dex.
I don't know if is strong list in other formats but it seems to work well for the Maelstrom objectives.

I always like me a Death Guard army!

I would think about dropping the Power Fists for your plague champions, that + a combi-melta is 35 points of weapons on a 1 wound model. I would just stick them with combi-melta and melta bombs, they can still deal with everything. Their plague knife is a very good weapon too don't forget. If you really want a big weapon then just go for a Power Axe or Power Maul.

Saving these points you should beef up your Lord a bit. Give him a Power Weapon or a Power Fist and a Sigil of Corruption so he's a bit more difficult to kill, and can also put out a lot of damage in combat.

I have never been brave enough to try Forgefiends, how are they working out for you?

Great suggestions.

It feels like my troops may be a bit bloated. If I cut the 3 powerfists and the Forgefiend I could add a flying Nugle Deamon prince with the axe of blind fury. I just haven't figured out a consistent way of getting him into combat.

Do you mean the Black Mace? Only Daemons of Khorne /Mark of Khorne can use the Axe of Blind Fury.

I'm not sure it's worth it, you already really need redundancy for a DP to work, and you don't really have any in-your-face stuff to go with him.

Edit: Actually I guess it could work since the knight moves 12 as well, but just be careful not to get them both tarpitted. If you take the Black Mace it can help with those situations.

Calixis sector / Screaming Vortex

A Nurgle Daemon prince with wings is his own way of getting into combat! He's also your anti-horde with the Black Mace, firemagnet and even potential knight killer if you get Iron Arm.

I always run one with ml3, wings, armour, Nurgle, Black Mace, Spell Familiar. He's never let me down (although Tau and IG do give him trouble sometimes with all their ignores cover when I don't get Iron Arm). Try it - love it!
