Hey..

so, working on a Forces of Nature army, and sourcing models.

I was wondering what to use as Hunters of the Wild (regular based, regiment footprint 100x80, 20 models)

Money being tight, was thinking of alternate models to use, when Halloween hit. Here in Ohio, my family gives out candy and cute lil toys to the kids, and we had extras of the cheap "Spider rings" .. plastic spider with a couple underneath prongs to hold onto a finger.

I realized that they MIGHT work as the Hunters unit, if I could re-imagine the Hunters as Giant Spiders.. so this is what I came up with, having hit them with a couple dabs of paint to break up the mono black plastic..

Now, there are only 8 giant spiders on there, for a unit size of 20.. maybe try to cram in 3 more to get to "Over 50%"?

Would "you" have any issue if I fielded 2-3 units like this?

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

My only issue would be that there are much better, still cheap (but not that cheap!) spider minis you could use for Counts As purposes than these - and I know because I have a box full of spider minis waiting for their Counts As time to shine

So no real issues. I would maybe try to pack on 1-3 more, maybe? To make the unit a little more three dimensional, maybe give a swarm feel to it, rather than eight evenly spaced, rather static spiders. But that's more aesthetics than anything. As long as the other spider units rep the same thing, I'm cool.

yeah.. only have 2 types of spiders.. Bag of 100 for $2 and bag of 50 for $2... I was thinking that the thin legged ones can be bent and maybe clambering over a rock or something.. you are totally correct that this is a very LOW height unit..

Maybe increase both your model count and your unit height by making some into jumping spiders - bend the legs down for a 'lift off!' pose, mount brass wire or a clear post to the bottom for height, and set the post into your base between the grounded spiders.

to get some height you could also grab some twigs from the yard and make trees. use Cotton balls and pull them apart to make some webbing from limbs and even add some spiders climbing across the treetops.
