Hey, long time since my last post here and I've certainly been out of the loop for a long time. Just wondering what is considered the top tier army? And which is the hardest/most tactical to play?

Eldar, Space Marines, Necrons: top dogs, little dispute. Multiple tourney level builds.

Daemons, Tyranids, Tau, Space Wolves, Dark Angels, AdMech: a single build that can stand against the big boys.

Any of these guys with a top level list are about even.

Khorne daemon kin, Orks, Knights, Dark Eldar, Inquisition, Assassins, Blood Angels, Grey Knights: Have a single trick or ace in the hole that enables them to occasionally appear in top tourney lists, but they require a top tier power house as a foundation. Their lists aren't good enough to stand on their own.

Guard, Sisters, CSM: you will never see them in a tourney top table for the most part.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

AdMech and Inquisition were designed to be allies, they have a million tricks (not just one) and a boatload of cheapshots, but no actual substance.

To quote a fictional character... "Let's make this fun!"

There was a story in the SM omnibus where a single kroot killed 2-3 marines then ate their gene seed and became a Kroot-startes.

We must all join the Kroot-startes...

AdMech can be used as allies, or in War Convocation. I put them in tier 2 essentially because of Convocation, which is a competitively viable list in its own right.

Inquisition was designed for being allies, but really brings very little to the table at the moment. Besides Coteaz or a generic inquisitor showing up here or there, you never see them.

I'd say Daemons.

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / Fallout Factions: BoS / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion: CIS / WWX: Union

On moon miranda.

To be fair, a lot of those are very small local events of 8-15 people, and in most cases where you see these armies placing highly, they're paired with a much more powerful second detachment.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

This pretty much nails it. Have an exalt

We actually don't know what new Tau can do yet at tournaments. I haven't seen any results of new Tau.

I was only disagreeing with the satatement that "you don't see the Guard, Chaos or Sisters in the top selections at any tournament ever.":p

Well less then 50 people it isn't even a tournament. With under 20 people you can fix the pairings and who wins, just by spliting the prize money with some of the opponents.

Technically I said "never, for the most part".

Occasionally you might see a couple squads of Vets dropping with borrowed pods, but skiitari do that better. Does that mean Guard is viable?

Or someone might take two min squads of cultists to get a Heldrake. Doesn't mean CSM was the one carrying the list.

He asked about the meta, that is the meta. The existence of those who go against the meta does not mean the meta doesn't exist.
