Hey guys, first post on here.
Writing some fluff for my DKoK and they get put together with some Emperor's Children by coincidence.
What can bring these two forces together? What do they have in common, or what trait is respected by the other?
Thanks,
See you all around!

It is possible to win and lose at once.
Think of the war that rages for so long that a world is left worthless in its wake.
Think of the swordsman that slays a foe at the cost of his own life.
Think finally of the Siege of Terra.
Let those fateful nights burn into your memory
Never forget the lesson learned when Horus duelled the False God.
Triumph bought with too much blood is no triumph at all. |

I'm not sure the Death Korps actually existed Pre-Heresy. It may have just been the Auxilia
Edit: Noticed you said Pre-Heresy.

DKoK were formed in 949.M40. Youd need a time paradox

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!
War Kitten- Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...
koooaei- Emperor: I envy your nipplehorns. <Magnus goes red. Permanently>
Neronoxx- If our Dreadnought doesn't have sick scuplted abs, we riot.
Frazzled- I don't generally call anyone by a term other than "sir" "maam" "youn g lady" "young man" or " HEY bag!"
Ruin- It's official, we've ran out of things to talk about on Dakka. Close the site. We're done.
mrhappyface- "They're more what you'd call guidlines than actual rules" - Captain Roboute Barbosa
Steve steveson- To be clear, I'd sell you all out for a bottle of scotch and a mid priced hooker.

The planet existed in the Heresy era, but had not yet nuked itself into oblivion, so the Death Korps did not yet exist. It is, in fact, the planet's refusal/inability to side with the Imperium during the Heresy that informs and causes the Death Korps to behave as they do.

I think you're getting mixed up with the Vostroyans there.

No?
The Death Korps of Krieg are Imperial Guard Regiments raised from the world of Krieg. Notoriously grim and fatalistic warriors, they seek to atone for their planet's past rebellion by dying glorious deaths in service to the Imperium. For this purpose, Death Korps regiments routinely request to fight in the galaxy's deadliest warzones, grinding their enemy down through long battles of attrition and siege warfare.
Emphasis mine.

Yea, but their betrayal was in 433.M40, long after the Heresy had ended. The Vostroyans did not come to the aid of the Imperium during the Heresy, so technically Gashrog is correct.

Ah, that might be so. I only really remember the Vostroyans from their bear hats and something about a guy riding on the back of a tank who fell off into a horde of Orks.
Oh, and FFG's grimdark gender equality update in Only War.

The sin they're trying to get forgiveness for is the fact that their leaders tried to secede from the Imperium in 433.M40,
The entire planet went along with it, except the Krieg IG regiment that nuked the planet, and then their descendants, who re-took it from the survivors of the nuking.

Well since DKoK aren't really Pre-Heresy era, the only real "fluffy" option would to be use the Solar Auxilia and customize them to fit your needs. The DKoK background wouldn't be too difficult to adapt and the Solar Axulia fit the "faceless" bill pretty well.
If it's the look you're after, there are other regiments like the Armageddon Steel Legion with that look - what these gas mask/trench coat wearing regiments have in common is dystopian homeworlds with harsh/toxic environments - I'm sure there's plenty enough of those to go around in any era.
Oh, I remember that too.
