Tarpitted.

Hey guys, I am playing a Heralds of Ruin Kill Team campaign with a friend. I am playing as Astra Militarum against his Orks. I bought the HB turret and I am looking for suggestions on how to build one. I have a Chimera turret with a pair of HB's green stuffed into it, and now I am looking to mount the turret on something to make it look like a turret; preferably with something that allows the turret to spin about on it. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Somewhere in south-central England.

I am not very clear about what you want to do.

Do you have a Heavy Bolter turret and you want to build another one like it? What vehicle does it come from?
Is this turret to go on a tank, or do you want to make a defense tower?

What's this Chimera turret you've made with Heavy Bolters? What do you want to do with it, is it to go on a tank?

If you have any photos of what you've got, and sketches of what you want to achieve, they would be helpful.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Sorry for the lack of clarity, I tend to over elaborate.

Something like this.

Again, my apologies.

Depending on what you have available, foamboard/plasticard is good for building a base, and more for a turret. Glue on the bolters, a bit of round sprue poked into a hole makes a pivot for the rotation and there you go.

Slightly more low-tech is options like cereal packet cardboard, or even the classic upturned-yoghurt-pot.

All of these are good ideas. Personally, I like to use foamcard for most scratch built scenery. Another (inexpensive) choice would be to cut the basic shape out of expanded polystyrene, clad it in card (maybe a second of layer to represent armour plating) and add details.

Maybe have a go at sketching your idea out first and think how it would be operated - automatically by a machine spirit? Do guardsmen have to operate it from within? Use the details to tell the story.

Have a look at tutorials, online, on youtube, or even there are some FB groups.

Let us know how it goes.

Spoiler:

Pardon the mess of my work area but this is what I have so far. I took a small rod of polystyrene and glued it to the bottom of the turret before I shoved it down into the foamboard, mounting it on top of the ADL turret platform. Now to just get it primed up (the turret was already primed) after I clean it. Thank you all for the suggestions!

These were reasonably common in WW2 - a concrete pillbox with a rotating turret (usually taken from an obsolete tank) mounted on top. A 'concrete' pillbox of foamcard with a textured coating would be pretty easy to build. Plasticard for the actual turret.

Actually most panzerturm and pantherturm tended to have the turret set ether flush or very close to the ground.
