Subject: How do alternative models work?

Most of miniature wargaming experience has been Warmachine where models from other manufacturers aren't really a thing.
So I'm looking into getting into a fantasy themed table top game and I kind of like elements of Kings of War and Age of Sigmar. They both scratch separate itches and I could see myself playing both, KoW when I want a deeper and more strategic game and AoS when I was a fun simple game of smashing two armies together on the table.
I don't have much stuff yet, but I'd probably buying stuff from Mantic and GW or even other places. I've found ample rules to bring the WHFB refugees to KoW, so going that direction is no problem. I know alternative models are a thing in GW's games, but I'm not really clear how it works. If the model generally looks like the GW model it's supposed to replace is is kosher for AoS? I'm think it's that simple, but I guess coming from Warmachine it just sounds too simple.

Depends on your gaming enviroment. Official GW stores and event are scrictly zero-tolerance as far as third party miniatures go but almost everywhere else will have it's own rules for this situation.

Cool. I don't plan on playing any official GW events. I guess I'll take 'em into my FLGS and see what people say(everybody there seems pretty laid back). AoS will almost definitely be my casual game any way, so hopefully it won't be a problem.

Outside of GW stores and events there is no good reason to not allow third party minis, especially in a casual environment. Shouldn't be a problem!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-) |

Non- GW Miniatures must be purified by roasting them in an oven @ 400 degrees for One hour. Only then are they eligible to be submitted for consecration by Jervis.

Too be fair, I think AoS is only a casual game. You will run into problems if you go to GW stores. Any where else should not care. If they do, then you need a new store.
