In the warp, searching for Marbo

New board game's out, and people are getting interested in 30k. I got myself the Legiones Astarties Crusade Army List, and the board game is on it's way.

Problem, I'm overwhelmed, and don't know where to start in building an army in this new(old) millennium!

I've decided on a Blood Angels army, mainly because I already have a 40k BA army, and l love the army.

All I've been able to figure that I'd like to have, is one or two squads of 20 Assault Marines.

So, back to the reason for this post... I'd like to run a fluffly/fun/functional Blood Angels army, and would like suggestions, and insight on how to do this in the 31st millennium!

Really should start up a 30k thread at this rate...

Oh, I'm looking to build a 2500pt army.
---

This is basic list based on what I'll get from the Board Game, and some proxies.

2502pt

Legion special rule: Furious Charge

HQ: Cat Terminator Praetor - Chain Fist, Combi-melta - 142pt
-Joins Terminators

Troops:

15x Tac w/ Extra Combat Blades, Vexilla, Melta Bombs, Power Axe, 2+ armor - 265pt

15x Tac w/ Extra Combat Blades, Vexilla, Melta Bombs, Power Axe, 2+ armor - 265pt

20x Assault (proxy) Marines w/ Melta Bombs, Shields, 2 Axes, 2x Swords, Lightning Claws Sgt, 2+ - 630pt (yikes)
I don't know if the point total is correct since it's Points per model with the shield, and I counted the Sgt even though he can't use it...

6x Tactical Support(proxy) w/6 Meltaguns - 225pt
-Drop Pod

6x Tactical Support(proxy) w/6 Plasma Guns - 225pt
-Drop Pod

Heavy Support:

(Dedicated Transport)
Land Raider Phobos w/Ceremite, Multi-melta, Frag Assault Launcher (does this make it an assault vehicle...my minds fuzzy right now) - 300pt
-Terminators

Elite:

Contemptor Dreadnought w/Heavy Flamer, Assault Cannon, Havoc Launcher - 215pt

Cat Terminators w/Heavy Flamer + Chain Fist, 2x LCs, Power Maul, Thunder Hammer Sgt. - 235pt
Didn't see a bulky, can they + Terminator Praetor ride in the same Land Raider?

This is what I've put together, and I need help breaking it down into a better idea. My basic idea is the same as when I play my 40k Blood Angels, Lightning attack. Get into melee as fast as I can after killing certain threats.

Simple answer: you can't. There's no rules for them yet so you can't really bring to bear a Blood Angel list in any sense of the game.

To fudge it though, Word Bearers have a pretty good selection. The Gal Vorbak make a good stat line for Death Company, even though Death Company aren't actually a thing in 30k as far as I know. Legionaries that succumb to the Flaw are just put down. And the Ashen Circle is an interesting enough Jump Pack unit. Take the Angel's Wrath or the Orbital Assault Rite of War, and I'd go more with Orbital Assault using the Betrayal at Calth box set.

So taking the full contents of the box set, you then just need Storm Eagles, Drop Pods and a fighter support of Fire Raptors and plenty of Drop Pods to get you going. It would be fluffy for Blood Angels for sure, since in 30k they were the Orbital Assault Kings descending on wings of flame.

Simple Answer - You can.

The Core crusade list is used for all legions so right there you can build an army.

One of the books (which one escapes me) also gives a very basic method of using legions without full rules yet. Essentially you get the Legiones Astartes rule as well as either Furious charge or Counter attack... I wonder which works best for Blood angels...

You know what you want as your core troops which is good - but those units are VERY expensive!

If I might proposed the following solution - buy Betrayal at Calth. This nets you everything you need to get started at about 1250 points. 2 of them and you will have 2500 (though no assault marines).

I wrote about this method here -

https://objectivesecured.wordpress.com/2015/11/15/betrayal-at-calth-the-easiest-way-ever-to-get-into-30k/

Going with just a single box though - This still nets you a pair of 15 man tactical squads as core troops as well as the needed HQ to get started. The termies can be built with claws for assault and the contemptor can easily be armed with a second combat weapon if you want it in combat or with a pair of assault cannons for AA/light AT duties.

After this box you can look at getting your assault marines and in the mean time you can use your 40k assault marines while you get a hang of 30k war!

Alright, I did plan on starting with the new box set, then finding a way from there.

Also, it's Stubborn or Furious Charge. I was going to take Stubborn in case my dice wiffed on me, and I didn't want to get swept.

I'll post a list idea later, and how I plan to use them. Then we can tinker around with it and find a decent strategy/way of using them.

For the Legion Astartes Stubborn/Furious Charge rule, what book and page is it on in? I can't seem to find it.

I'm guessing that is in the red book? I don't have them. Would you happen to know which of the original books it was in? I'm pretty confident it is not in Betrayal or Massacre.

I'm sorry, I only have the Legiones Astartes Crusade Army List red book.

Also, I've just (or will in a second) post the list I came up with in the original post.
