I'm currently building a Strike team of Fire Warriors, and I'd like to equip the Shas'ui with the new 'shotgun'-esque weapons the new codex has bought in.

Would it be allowed, seeing as it's a Strike team and not a Breacher team?

Are you asking if it's legal from a rules perspective, or if people would have a problem with it?

As far as the rules are concerned, check the unit entry in the codex and you'll have your answer. Dakka isn't a replacement for the codex when you want to know the rules.

If it's just for modelling purposes, I don't see a problem with it.

Agreed.

So... I feel your question can be interpreted in two ways here...

Can a striker shas'ui take a pulse blaster? No. It a a breacher weapon.

Can you take it on a shas'ui and call it something else? Sure, but WYSIWYG is a thing in many gaming circles so you can expect some resistance here and there. If that's what you want to do though I'd be fine with it being a pulse carbine if you modified it a little bit.
