So I'm making a new list that uses the Crimson Slaughter book. Lots of Nurgle-marked Possessed (40 total; 20 in one big blob in a Spartan with a super-killy Lord and two squads of 10), a pair of Hellblades, and a couple of 10-man Havoc squads. The way I have it, one squad has 4 missile launchers (regular, not AA) and the other has 4 Heavy Bolters. Would I be better going half-and-half (2 missiles, 2 heavy bolters), swapping out the heavy bolters for Autocannons, doing both squads with autocannons, what? They're the firebase for what's otherwise a super-fast, elite assault army, so I wanna be sure they can fullfill that role to the fullest! I'd love to get some input soon - the first squad to be converted should be arriving today!
As the list stands, it looks like this:

Thanks - and I plan to! Maelstrom Raider gives it outflank, which will let it smash into the side of someone's army and just plow through, using their own units as cover. And do you mean just the heavy bolters, or the missiles too?

Your possessed are 300 pts and you want to foot slog them? You have very little models and will get steam rolled so hard, the spartan assualt tank is durable but once your luggage leaves then its nothing but a brick on the table. Alas ill help you, the first thing you want to do is take off the gift of mutation, it wont help you then take iff the blade of relentless and put on a lc and pf. Then go all autocannons with no marks and 5 man a squad, use the remaing points and either get rhinos for the possessed or get some cultists to cap back field objs. A good way to see if you have a good list is to see how expensive your units are and then what can you get instead of them. But you want possessed for some reason so ya

I want Possessed because A: they're troops choices in the Crimson Slaughter book, and B: they will play differently than any other army I have. I elected to go without Rhinos because possessed move like beasts - meaning they move incredibly quickly on their own, and they ignore difficult terrain. Rhinos also lack the assault rule; while I may lose models, I'll also likely be getting the possessed into melee a lot faster (which is where they need to be). As for the Spartan, it's plan is to outflank, dump the Lord and his mob, and then roll alongside them to provide cover fire, crack armor, and use dirge casters to prevent overwatch. I also took Blade of the Relentless so the Lord can cut through a weaker unit, buffing the sword and making him able to take on nearly any enemy in melee.
I considered 5-man havoc teams, but I don't need them breaking and running or losing guns early. I could probably drop a few, though; going to need to do some tinkering.

foot slogging possesed is a bad idea, but if you feel that way i would split them up into 5 man squads that way you force your opponent to shoot at each individual squad. if you want to kill weak enemies then take lc if you want to kill any enemy character take pf blade of the relentless is ok if you want it you can have it, as for the havocs take autocannons and cut them to 7 man squads is that good?

Possessed are not beasts, they are infantry unless Crimson Slaughter gave a special rule turning them into beasts. Possessed has fleet which is very different from the move 12" like spawns because spawns are beasts.

Possessed *can* be Beasts. They can also gain Shrouded (that also works for the Transport), so it won't hurt to get them for when the dice are helpful.

Shrouded, and the 3++ aren't bad options... except you're going to lose models as you run across the table. I've taken units of 15+ and they can get decimated in 1-2 turns of shooting easily. I would take MSU with or without transports for each unit.

With that extra four points, you should put a combi olter on your spartan... and take off the flamers. With a pack of 20(!) Possessed inside, its going to hit your own dudes. I would also take the frag assault launchers off. The Spartan does indeed have a capacity of 25 - I double-checked in IA13. I'll look at removing the frag launchers - but the Spartan is meant to roll along with the group at close range, so the heavy flamers will be a far greater benefit in helping clean up the back line, slamming tanks with the laser destroyers and multi-melta, and turning the heavy flamers and every other gun onto squads that either aren't going to be assaulted (yet) or to soften them up for assault. At the range it's going to be operating (point blank), I'll bank on the potential for more hits. But hey, I'll magnetize the weapons; if they don't work out, then it costs no poitns to switch to the Heavy Bolters!
